Despite his high determination and good preparation, the ASIAD shooting champion in the men's 10m air pistol event, Pham Quang Huy, still missed out on a ticket to the Paris Olympics. In the qualifying round for the Paris Olympics currently taking place in Brazil, Pham Quang Huy did not compete successfully, scoring only 576 points, ranking 21st, so he could not win a ticket to the final round to compete for a spot at the Olympics. Unfortunately, in the final round, the shooter from Hai Phong only scored a very low 93 points, eliminating himself from the race for the final round. This also means that the 19th ASIAD champion no longer has a chance to prove himself in the Olympic arena. Perhaps this shooter has to shoulder the responsibility of hunting for a ticket to the Olympics, so he is under pressure.
Vietnam shooting team focuses on achieving good results at the 2024 Paris Olympics
In addition to Pham Quang Huy, two shooters Phan Cong Minh and Lai Cong Minh also participated in the qualifying round of the 10m air pistol event. With 581 points, Phan Cong Minh ranked 9th, only 1 place behind the top 8 athletes in the finals, while Lai Cong Minh ranked 47th with 571 points.
Speaking to Thanh Nien from Brazil, Ms. Vu Thi Anh Dao, in charge of the shooting department of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, said: "This qualifying round in Brazil is the last chance for athletes to win tickets to the Paris Olympics, so it attracts the world's top shooters to compete. Vietnamese athletes also have good scores and good rankings. Although they have not reached the finals, what they have shown shows the determination and fighting spirit of the athletes. Pham Quang Huy is the same, he is eager to win tickets to the Paris Olympics, so he is very sad that he cannot realize his goal. However, Huy still has many opportunities in the upcoming continental and world tournaments."
With no more tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Vietnamese shooting team also "adjusted their sights", focusing on investing in the two shooters who had already won tickets: Trinh Thu Vinh (women's 10m air pistol) and Nguyen Thi Mong Tuyen (women's 10m air rifle).
These two players also trained in the Olympic qualifying round in Brazil, then continued to conquer the World Shooting Cup in late April in Azerbaijan, and the World Shooting Cup in late May in Germany. Ms. Vu Thi Anh Dao said that competing in many international tournaments will help Thu Vinh and Mong Tuyen hone their mentality, courage, and competition experience, which are currently the weaknesses of Vietnamese shooters. In addition to competing, the two spearheads of the Vietnamese shooting team also practice to improve their expertise and perfect their techniques to achieve their best performance at the Paris Olympics taking place next July.
