Reporting to the working delegation of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association's Traditional Liaison Committee, Colonel Nguyen Van Tam - Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command said that Quang Nam has a common border with Laos of more than 157.4km long through the two districts of Nam Giang and Tay Giang.
In the border area, Quang Nam has 14 communes (with 71 villages) bordering 7 areas (with 28 villages) of Dac Chung and Ka Lum districts (Sekong province, Laos); there is 1 Nam Giang international border gate (in Nam Giang district) and 1 Ch'Nooc secondary border gate (in Tay Giang district). The population on the land border is mainly the Co Tu, Ve, and Ta Rieng ethnic groups.
Despite the sparse population and difficult life, ethnic minorities on both sides of the border have always maintained diplomatic relations, kinship relations, and marriage relations for many generations. This is also a favorable condition for building a peaceful, friendly, and developed border. Thanks to that, over the past years, the national defense - security situation, social order and safety in the border area between Quang Nam and Sekong provinces have always been stable, and border security and sovereignty have been maintained.

Quang Nam currently has friendly and cooperative relations with Sekong and Champasak provinces (Laos), especially in the fields of economy, culture, education, health, national defense and security. Regarding people's foreign affairs, departments, branches, associations and localities in the province have established friendship with disadvantaged districts of Sekong province to increase resources to help the neighboring province.
Quang Nam's total aid to Sekong province in the 2016-2021 period is about 101 billion VND. Quang Nam has proposed that the Government allocate aid funds to help Laos build the Dak Ta Ooc Border Gate National Gate project with a total estimated budget of 38 billion VND.

At the meeting, leaders of Quang Nam province and the Traditional Liaison Committee of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association assessed the positive and negative aspects of people's diplomacy in the province, thereby proposing solutions suitable to the practical situation.
