Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment to a new term in Vietnam and was ready to listen to Australia's current and future concerns and priorities for Vietnam, especially cooperation in the energy sector.
The Ambassador thanked the Deputy Minister for taking the time to welcome the delegation and was delighted to assume the role of Australian Ambassador to Vietnam at a time when the relationship between the two countries is at its best, especially in terms of cooperation in energy transition. The Ambassador congratulated Vietnam on promulgating the Electricity Law (amended) with many positive adjustments and supplements, including regulations on offshore wind power development. This will create more opportunities for cooperation between the two sides in the process of clean energy and renewable energy transition in the coming time.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister shared important information about the Power Plan VIII (adjusted) expected to be issued in the near future, including offshore wind power projects until 2030. This is the basis for opening up many opportunities for Vietnam to learn from experience and cooperate with foreign investors and experts in the field of renewable energy. The Deputy Minister welcomed the early and active interest of Australian investors in wind power projects in Vietnam, especially the Corio Group with Vietnamese partners.
On this occasion, the Ambassador also shared the Australian Government's interest in the Southeast Asian region, including Vietnam, through an increased support package of AUD 96.6 million in the 2025-2026 fiscal year to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Australia-Vietnam Development Partnership Plan, focusing on green energy development and climate change response. The Australian side also looks forward to support from Vietnamese management agencies to promote the earliest and most effective implementation of this support capital through flexible and blended financial instruments.
On this occasion, the two sides emphasized the important role of the Vietnam-Australia Ministerial Dialogue on Energy and Minerals in promoting bilateral energy cooperation. The Deputy Minister also asked the Ambassador to support the transfer of the desire to soon coordinate with the Australian counterpart Ministry to organize the first session of this Energy Dialogue in 2025.

The Deputy Minister believes that with the Ambassador's attention in the upcoming term, the Vietnam-Australia relationship in particular and cooperation in the fields of trade - industry - energy will have many more development milestones, deepening and commensurate with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. The Deputy Minister sent the Ambassador his best wishes for a successful term, good health and many beautiful memories in Vietnam.
In the first 3 months of 2025, Vietnam's import-export turnover with Australia reached 3.3 billion USD, an increase of 3.6% over the same period in 2024. Of which, Vietnam's export turnover to Australia reached 1.6 billion USD, an increase of 16.7% over the same period in 2024, Vietnam's import turnover from Australia was 1.8 billion USD, a decrease of 5.9% over the same period in 2024. Vietnam's trade deficit with Australia was worth 171 million USD, down 66.3% compared to the same period in 2024. |
