Victor Vu touches his dream of making a pure Vietnamese historical detective film

The project that Victor Vu has been working on for nearly a year will officially be released to the audience at the end of April. He was moved to say that this is a special work for him. Over the past 20 years, Victor Vu has always wanted to learn and discover many new things. In particular, the detective film genre has always had a special appeal to him, but most of the famous characters and stories that the male director has had the opportunity to learn about are from Western films. Therefore, he always longed to be able to make a purely Vietnamese detective film.

Victor Vu's chance came when he met the detective character Kien in the novel Ho han by author Hong Thai - who is also his father-in-law. Initially, Victor Vu carried out two parallel film scripts, The Last Wife and Detective Kien: The Headless Case. However, when considering the market factors in 2023, he decided to release the love story The Last Wife first. Along with the success of this film, the detective character Kien played by Quoc Huy unexpectedly received the love of the public. That was a great source of motivation for Victor Vu to reach his dream since he was a teenager. He immediately started working on the project Detective Kien: The Headless Case.

The initial footage introducing the film shows Victor Vu continuing to promote the creative imprints with strong personal imprints that have been loved for many years.

The film's setting in Cao Bang and Tuyen Quang is both familiar and strange through the film crew's cinematic camera angles. The mountainous landscape of the North greatly complements the story's content, creating a mysterious and magical atmosphere for detective Kien's thrilling crime-solving journey. The filming time was the cold season, so it was suitable for creating beautiful atmosphere and colors for scenes such as early morning mist, clouds, etc. The film crew added that some of the new settings built by the crew have been retained by the locality as tourist attractions.

The director emphasized that Detective Kien is a good case solver and is not only rational but also very emotional. These qualities of the character were shown to some extent in the film The Last Wife and will be portrayed more clearly in the new film.

Victor Vu further revealed that the film only has 20% horror elements, the rest is spiritual throughout the story with attractive elements that are "eye-catching, emotional and extremely entertaining". After completing the work, the crew confidently moved the release date up 2 weeks to participate in the "cinema party" on the occasion of April 30 - May 1 for Vietnamese audiences.

Detective Kien: The Headless Case is a spiritual - thriller - crime solving film. The cast includes: Quoc Huy as Detective Kien, Dinh Ngoc Diep as Hai Man, Quoc Anh as Thac, Anh Pham as Tuyet and Minh Anh as Nga, Xuan Trang as Quan Liem, People's Artist My Uyen as Mrs. Vuong (Quan Liem's ​​wife).

The movie Detective Kien: The Headless Case is scheduled to premiere on April 30, 2025 in theaters nationwide. The movie will have special screenings from April 26 and 27, 2025.
