This spirit was emphasized by Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien at the conference to review the work in 2024 and the direction and focus of work in 2025 organized by the Presidium of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations on January 9.

Speaking at the Conference, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Phan Anh Son emphasized: In 2024, strongly promoting the motto "Proactive, flexible, creative, effective" of people's diplomacy, the system of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations from the central to local levels has strongly innovated the thinking, approach, organization methods and content of people's diplomacy activities in the direction of: Determining that people's diplomacy activities are not only organizing cultural exchange activities, promoting friendship and mutual understanding, but also serving development, being a bridge connecting cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, tourism, education, investment; mobilizing international solidarity, contributing to protecting national and ethnic interests.
People's foreign affairs activities chaired by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, in coordination with other agencies and organizations, have increasingly rich, practical, focused, creative and innovative content in their organization methods. The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations has organized over 1,000 on-site foreign affairs activities, organized 43 outbound delegations, 28 inbound delegations, 5 international conferences and seminars, conducted over 40 meetings with foreign representative agencies in Vietnam; organized many programs to share information with foreign investors about Vietnam's policies and give suggestions to businesses, connecting investment cooperation between Vietnamese businesses and businesses of other countries.
In particular, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) has advised, chaired/coordinated the organization of 9 activities of Party and State leaders meeting with friends and people of other countries and leaders of other countries meeting with the Vietnamese people. VUFO and its member organizations also actively participate and make responsible contributions to activities within the framework of multilateral mechanisms and forums such as the United Nations, ASEAN, the World Peace Council... not only contributing to protecting national and ethnic interests, but also contributing to the world people's movement for peace and sustainable development.
The Union focuses on expanding relations with partners and friends around the world, cooperating in many different fields (economy, trade, tourism, culture, science, etc.); strengthening relations with foreign non-governmental organizations, diversifying the mobilization objects. In 2024, VUFO recorded foreign non-governmental aid estimated to be equivalent to 2023, reaching nearly 230 million USD. In particular, the Union mobilized about 220 billion VND (cash and in kind) from foreign non-governmental organizations to overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi...
Acknowledging the impressive results achieved in 2024, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien affirmed that the role and mission of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations in people-to-people diplomacy in the new period helps strengthen and expand friendly relations with people of other countries, enhancing the image and international position of Vietnam in the international arena.
From the achieved results, Chairman Do Van Chien suggested that in 2025, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations should continue to focus on innovating thinking, methods, approaches and content of people-to-people diplomacy activities.
“With a far-sighted, broad-minded, deep-thinking, and big-minded mindset to answer the question of what the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations does, how it does it, and who does it to contribute to the entire Party, people, and army to enter the era of striving to build a prosperous, strong country and happy people,” Chairman Do Van Chien suggested.
Chairman Do Van Chien said that the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations needs to strongly promote its role and mission to contribute comprehensively to the draft documents of the Party Congresses at all levels, focusing on foreign affairs and people-to-people diplomacy. In addition, the Union needs to continue to effectively implement Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW dated October 25, 2017 of the 12th Party Central Committee on innovation and reorganization of the political system, ensuring solidarity and consensus.
Chairman Do Van Chien affirmed that, with his position and responsibility, he will support and coordinate with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations to effectively implement the directions and key tasks in 2025.
On this occasion, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien awarded the Third Class Independence Medal to Ms. Nguyen Phuong Nga, former President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations; and the First Class Labor Medal to Mr. Nguyen Van Doanh, former Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, in recognition of his outstanding achievements during his work and his great contributions to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.
At the conference, 100% of the members of the Presidium of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations voted to approve the report on dismissal and election of additional members of the Presidium of the 6th term. The leaders of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations awarded emulation flags and certificates of merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in 2024.
