Hanoi Three sixth-grade female students at Tan Minh Secondary School were suspended from school for a week to "review their attitude and behavior" after hitting and stomping on a friend.

The information was shared by Mr. Nguyen Nhu Y, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thuong Tin district, on the evening of November 13. Temporary suspension from school is the highest level of disciplinary action for students who violate the current regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

In addition, a former student of the school also participated in the above-mentioned gang beating. Mr. Y said that the local police are clarifying the incident and the extent of the violation committed by this student.

"Students who stand by and cheer will be criticized and warned," Mr. Y said.

Previously, on the afternoon of November 10, a sixth grade female student at Tan Minh Secondary School was beaten by four other female students in the hallway in front of the classroom. The victim lay flat on her back, repeatedly beaten and kicked in the head and face. One student even used a broom to sweep the victim's head, then climbed on top of her and kicked her in the face. The beaten female student just covered her face and cried, while dozens of students around witnessed, cheered and commented with many obscene words, imitating the victim's cry for help.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Thuong Tin district, the victim was taken to the Agricultural Hospital I for examination, and his health was not seriously affected. He is currently at home to stabilize his mental state. The Department has criticized Tan Minh Secondary School for delaying reporting the incident, and requested the school to visit the victim and coordinate with the authorities to clarify the matter.

"When there is an official conclusion, the Department will direct the school to take appropriate and appropriate measures that are in accordance with regulations and have a deterrent effect," the report stated.

The agency also reminded schools in the area to focus on political education, ethics, and life skills for students; organize psychological counseling and social work; and implement regulations on preventing and combating school violence.

School violence is an existing problem in the education sector, according to the Ministry of Education and Training. Responding to questions at the National Assembly on the afternoon of November 7, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that from 2021 to now, nearly 700 cases of school violence have occurred nationwide, involving more than 2,000 students, including 800 female students.

Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Education Nguyen Dac Vinh acknowledged that there are many reasons for this situation, partly due to the impact of movies and social networks, and partly due to the behaviors of adults that children imitate. Mr. Vinh said that there need to be many synchronous solutions, but the fundamental and long-term solution is to build a school culture.

According to regulations, student discipline for violations includes three forms: warning, reprimand and temporary suspension from school.
