According to MacRumors , a close source recently revealed that the technology giant Apple is nurturing a project to develop a smart doorbell, which will even support advanced Face ID facial recognition technology.
Apple is about to launch a new smart doorbell?
The product is said to connect wirelessly to smart door locks, allowing users to automatically unlock them through facial recognition. This doorbell could be compatible with existing HomeKit locks on the market, or Apple will partner with a lock brand to provide a complete solution.
Apple's smart doorbell is expected to be a direct competitor to Amazon's Ring product line. However, it is not yet clear whether this product will have integrated video recording features.
With a reputation for security and privacy, Apple will certainly focus on these factors when introducing the smart doorbell. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, this product will likely be equipped with a proprietary Wi-Fi chip with Secure Enclave, which helps protect user data in an optimal way. If integrated with video recording, this new doorbell will take advantage of the HomeKit Secure Video service with end-to-end encryption to store data securely on iCloud.
However, users will probably have to wait quite a while because Mr. Gurman predicts that Apple's smart doorbell will not be released before 2026.
In addition to the doorbell, Apple is said to have bigger plans to enter the smart home market. The 'bitten apple' is expected to launch a smart home control hub next year and a HomeKit-enabled indoor security camera, competing with products like the Logitech Circle View.
