General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong shared with artists at the 75th Anniversary of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations (July 25, 1948 - July 25, 2023): Only great aspirations and ambitions for creativity can go far and be sustainable. Those are truly thoughtful, profound and profound things.

The General Secretary met and talked with artists nationwide to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations and to receive the Gold Star Order on July 25, 2018.

Right in the opening words, the General Secretary expressed his respect and deep gratitude to the great President Ho Chi Minh, the outstanding cultural figure, the beloved Uncle Ho - the one who laid the first foundation for the new culture, literature and art in our country.

The General Secretary remembered and expressed gratitude to the talented artists who had contributed and sacrificed for the nation's revolutionary cause; their names and works have entered the people's memories, bringing glory to the country's revolutionary culture, literature and art.

The General Secretary affirmed the great contributions of generations of artists: Successive generations of artists have created many valuable works in many fields, making worthy contributions to the cause of national liberation struggle, building and defending the Fatherland.

The General Secretary deeply recognized and appreciated the contributions of literature and art, which are: Continuing to innovate, closely following the vibrant reality of the country, having a calm and subtle perspective, actively supporting social stability, strengthening faith, having a dialectical view of life; praising and affirming the good and positive things; encouraging new factors and new achievements, "using light to push back darkness"; social positivity is promoted.

Literature and art are increasingly developing in a diverse, rich, new and potential way; the trend of professionalization is increasingly promoted; national identity is increasingly deepened, with great achievements and long strides in their careers. The current ideological and emotional situation of the intellectual and artistic community has made an important contribution to the political stability of society and the development of the country.

However, besides the results, achievements and great contributions of artists, the General Secretary also frankly pointed out the limitations and weaknesses that need to be overcome soon.

In particular, there are still some people who have lost sight of revolutionary goals and ideals, and who take social responsibility and civic duty lightly. Their works are often far from the practical life of the country and the people. Some statements, memoirs, books, newspapers, websites, and social networks have unconstructive and even extreme content. There are some cases of "blackening" the sacred values ​​of history and the regime, over-emphasizing the "ego" to call for freedom of creation... denying the Party's leadership role in literature and art.

The General Secretary considered himself as a member of the Association. He suggested that all of you, brothers, sisters, and comrades, exchange and discuss frankly, with a constructive spirit, high responsibility, "self-examination, self-correction" to overcome the limitations and weaknesses in the creation and theory of literary and artistic criticism as well as in the organization and operation of Associations and Unions of Literary and Artistic Associations nationwide.

The General Secretary suggested strategic directions for innovation in creative activities of literature and art: Encourage exploration and creativity of artists.

In this noble and great cause of the entire nation, the intellectual team, including scientific and technological intellectuals and social science and humanities intellectuals, including intellectuals and artists, plays a particularly important role and position, because intellectuals and talents are the vitality of the nation, the precious capital of the nation.

Our ancestors taught: "Talents are the vital energy of the nation; when the vital energy is prosperous, the country is strong and great; when the vital energy is weak, the country is weak and declines." For a long time, our Party has always affirmed: "Literature and art are very important and especially sophisticated fields of culture; are essential needs, expressing the aspirations for truth, goodness and beauty of people; are one of the great driving forces, directly contributing to building the spiritual foundation of society and the comprehensive development of the Vietnamese people" in the period of promoting industrialization, modernization, proactively and actively integrating internationally to develop the country quickly and sustainably.

More than ever, artists must stay close to life, dare to enter the spearheads of life in agriculture, industry, services, in the marketplace and on the security, defense, and foreign affairs fronts; go to remote areas, ethnic minority areas, border areas, and islands to discover and reflect new factors, good practices, and new issues arising in life, and actively and responsibly participate in social tasks.

Especially the fight against corruption and negativity, contributing to building a civilized, elegant, and humane Vietnamese socialist people. Only then can our literature and art have good works that touch people's hearts and are necessary for the public and society.

The General Secretary kindly told the young writers: Only great aspirations and ambitions can go far and last. We all know that in our time, the life around us has many things to say and write about, but the important thing is how to say it and how to write it? Many people often say that literature and art must illuminate life, not just be a place where life manifests itself; literature and art nurture and elevate people, not just a place to express personal feelings and degrade people.

Hopefully, artists will realize and clearly express that to be worthy of the people's trust, love and new hope; do not let mediocrity and complacency haunt you.

The General Secretary pointed out: Comrades need to constantly learn and draw good lessons from previous generations to continue to commit, go further, and be more steadfast. That lesson is still: Great aspirations, noble ideals, harmonizing the beat of one's heart with the beat of the heart of the entire nation, struggling with the rich and vibrant reality of people's lives, not just falling into personal moods, gnawing at one's thoughts, pessimism, using tricks instead of talent, looking at life with a narrow perspective, even considering literature and art simply as a hobby, entertainment or a game, a trivial passion.

The reality of literary life in our country and in the world shows that great writers are writers with great aspirations and ambitions, with far-reaching visions and profound thinking. Only with great aspirations and ambitions for creativity can one go far and be sustainable.
