On March 14, Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) held a ceremony to launch a competition to complete the construction and put into operation the T3 Passenger Terminal project at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
At the ceremony, Mr. Le Khac Hong - Head of the Tan Son Nhat Airport T3 Terminal Construction Project Management Board said that after about 8 months of construction, the terminal construction and equipment installation package has completed more than 81% of the work volume.
Currently, the project progress is being closely monitored by the investor and contractor to ensure the plan is followed. At the construction site, the joint venture contractor mobilized more than 400 vehicles, equipment and nearly 2,000 engineers and workers to simultaneously implement all items.
"The investor and contractors committed to increasing the number of people, machinery, equipment, and construction sites, working "3 shifts, 4 shifts", through holidays and days off to strive to put the project into operation on April 30 next year, 2 months ahead of schedule compared to the original plan," Mr. Hong emphasized.
According to the investor, when the T3 terminal is put into operation, it will serve the largest domestic passenger volume in the country, with 20 million people. Together with the existing T1 and T2 terminals, this project will contribute to increasing the total capacity of Tan Son Nhat airport to 50 million passengers per year.
The T3 passenger terminal construction project is invested by Vietnam Airports Corporation, with a total investment of nearly 11,000 billion VND; designed with a capacity of 20 million passengers/year, 7,000 passengers/peak hour.
Terminal T3 has three main categories, including: passenger terminal, multi-storey car park combined with non-aviation services and overpass system. In particular, the terminal has one basement, four floors above ground, built on an area of 112,500 m2.
The terminal has a linear shape similar to the existing terminal, designed into 2 separate departure and arrival levels, with 90 traditional airline check-in counters, 20 automatic baggage drop backdrops and 42 check-in kiosks, 27 aircraft gates (including 13 telescopic gates and 14 bus gates), 6 departure baggage handling islands and 10 arrival baggage return islands, and 25 passenger security control gates.
The project also has a high-rise parking lot combined with non-aviation services, a complex of 2 basements, 4 above-ground floors and a 3-storey motorbike parking lot connected by a bridge corridor, with a total floor area of 130,000m2.
To improve the efficiency of the project when it is put into operation, Ho Chi Minh City is also implementing and preparing to implement many projects connecting with this station.
Currently, the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project, more than 4km long, is being synchronously deployed outside with a total investment of more than 4,800 billion VND. This project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. In addition to connecting T3 station, it will break the monopoly of Truong Son road to and from the airport, helping to reduce congestion in the area.
