Cracks appear across the hill, Nhu Thanh district urgently evacuates households

A 50-meter-long crack and collapse on a hill in Dong Phong village, Phuong Nghi commune has just been discovered. Nhu Thanh district has urgently evacuated 3 households living near the foot of the hill to ensure safety.

After receiving the information, on the morning of October 3, the People's Committee of Nhu Thanh district conducted an inspection and discovered a crack and subsidence running about 50 meters across the hillside of Dong Phong village, Phuong Nghi commune. Through measurement, the crack is near the top, about 50 meters from the foot of the hill, the crack is from 0.1 to 0.3 meters wide, with some sections having subsidence from 0.5 to 1 meter, and is currently developing complicatedly.

This is an acacia hill area on forestry land assigned to the family of Ms. Dinh Thi Nhuong, located next to the inter-district road from Phuong Nghi commune, Nhu Thanh district to Thuong Ninh commune, Nhu Xuan district. At the foot of the hill near the crack, there are currently 3 households, with a total of 9 people, of which 6 people live at home regularly, 3 people work far away.

The 50m long subsidence is complicated and at high risk of landslide.

On the afternoon of October 3, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhu Thanh District, Dang Tien Dung, said: "Facing the high risk of landslides, the district has just directed the People's Committee of Phuong Nghi Commune to relocate all 3 households and specialized equipment to a safe location. At the same time, we have built barriers, put up landslide warning signs, and assigned guards on both sides of the road in areas at risk of landslides. Signs guiding people and vehicles to avoid areas at risk of landslides have also been placed in the crack area."

Local authorities posted signs and closed the road through the foothill area below the crack.

The People's Committee of Nhu Thanh district also reported and requested the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Thanh Hoa province to inspect and give instructions.
