(HNMO) - On the afternoon of April 11, the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) informed that in just over 1 month (from March 1 to present), the National Waterway Police force has discovered and handled 13 cases of drivers and crew members on ships and boats violating alcohol concentration.

According to statistics, of the 13 vessels detected in violation, the authorities handled 9 cases of cargo vessels and 4 cases of passenger vessels. In particular, there were crew members who violated the alcohol concentration at a very high level, higher than the "maximum limit" prescribed in Decree No. 139/2021/ND-CP.

Patrol on the Red River.

Specifically, at around 11:00 a.m. on April 7, at Km 237+100 on the Red River, An Tuong Commune, Vinh Tuong District (Vinh Phuc), the Waterway Police Patrol Team, Traffic Police Department of Vinh Phuc Provincial Police checked the alcohol concentration of the driver and crew of the ship with registration number VP-20XX. The ship was captained by Mr. HVT (born in 1983; residing in Vinh Phuc Province) and crew member by Mr. NVB (born in 1986, residing in Vinh Phuc Province).

The inspection discovered that Mr. B violated the crew's duty of working on a vessel with a breath alcohol concentration exceeding 0.4 milligrams/liter of breath. For the above violation, Mr. B will be fined 20-35 million VND and have his professional certificate revoked for 1-3 months.

Measure alcohol concentration with specialized machine.

The Traffic Police Department said that through inspections, many boat drivers and crew members were complacent about drinking alcohol and then operating watercraft. After being informed, drivers of watercraft all realized that this behavior was especially dangerous, because watercraft carrying goods or passengers on rivers and seas, when traffic accidents occur, will be very dangerous, with great consequences.

Determining that if an incident occurs, rescue and search and rescue work on the river will be very difficult, accidents with watercraft often cause great damage to people and property, from now until April 30, the National Waterway Police force will continue to carry out peak alcohol concentration testing for boat drivers and crew members...
