Most notably, pedagogical majors have a ceiling standard score, while in many other majors, candidates must have a perfect academic score of 10 points to be admitted.
Many industries 29 points or more
Ho Chi Minh City University of Education has just announced the admission score for the 2024 academic year. The admission score for chemistry education is up to 29.81 points. Thus, on average, candidates must achieve 9.94 points/subject (including priority points) to be admitted.
This score increased compared to 2023. Some majors also had benchmark scores that broke the 2023 record, such as biology pedagogy (29.46), history pedagogy (29.05). Some majors such as literature pedagogy, geography pedagogy, and geography pedagogy also had benchmark scores that increased compared to last year.
In the North, the admission score of Hanoi National University of Education this year also broke the record of 2023. If last year only a few pedagogical majors had admission scores above 29, this year most of them are above 29 points.
In 2023, the math pedagogy major had the highest standard score in the school with 29.67. This year, the record belongs to the literature pedagogy major with a standard score of 29.8.
The benchmark scores for many other majors are also very high, such as chemistry education (29.55), English education (29.58), and primary education (29.44). With these scores, candidates must achieve a near-perfect academic score to be admitted.
At Da Lat University, the record standard score for considering high school transcripts in 2023 has been changed when many pedagogical majors have had a sharp increase in standard scores.
Of which, the benchmark score for mathematics education is 29.25, physics education is 28.5 (up 1.5 points), biology education is 28 (up 4 points), history education is 28.75 (up 2.75 points). In the selection method for candidates who have won provincial-level excellent student awards, most of the education majors have a benchmark score (average grade 12 score) of the main subject that is almost absolute.
Math 9.8 and physics 9.7; other pedagogical majors from 9.5 to 9.6. Some non-pedagogical majors also have a sharp increase in standard scores compared to 2023. Of which, information technology and banking and finance increased by 3 points, law and English increased by 2.5 points.
A common point in the pedagogical majors is that the benchmark score in 2024 has increased sharply compared to last year. At the University of Education (University of Danang), the benchmark score for most pedagogical majors has increased compared to last year.
Preschool education increased by 5 points. Computer science education increased from 24.2 to 26.45. Natural science education increased by 2.1 points, physics education increased by 1.4 points. The remaining majors increased from 0.5 to 1 point.
At Can Tho University, the mathematics education major this year set a new record with a benchmark score of 29.6. Some other education majors also saw their benchmark scores increase sharply to very high levels, such as chemistry education (29.5), physics education (29.25), natural science education (29.2), and biology education (19.12).
Few quotas, many interested candidates
Mr. Le Phan Quoc - Deputy Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education - said that the standard score for considering high school transcripts for pedagogical majors this year increased due to the increase in the number of registrations and the reduction in quotas for many majors.
"Some majors with a sharp increase in benchmark scores such as biology and geography only have about 20 quotas. 10% of admission is based on high school transcripts, so there are only about 2 quotas per major. Therefore, benchmark scores will increase. Quotas for these majors have been cut due to low social demand.
"Students in these fields can only teach at the high school level. Moreover, these are elective subjects according to the new curriculum, not compulsory as before," Mr. Quoc added.
Mr. Le Xuan Vinh - head of training department of Quy Nhon University - said that the standard score increased because the number of candidates registering for admission increased while the quota decreased.
"Some majors only have 20 quotas. The school must reserve quotas for the high school graduation exam score method. This year, many pedagogical majors are assigned quite few quotas, a sharp decrease compared to last year. For example, the natural science pedagogical major had 150 quotas last year but this year there are only 27 quotas," Mr. Vinh added.
Mostly increased
At Quy Nhon University, the record standard score of 29.25 for the math pedagogy major in 2023 was replaced by the score of 29.5 for the same major in 2024.
Although not the major with the highest benchmark score, the natural science pedagogy major has a benchmark score of 28.5 - an increase of 7.5 points compared to 2023. The history and geography pedagogy major also increased by 4.25 points. Many other pedagogical majors also have benchmark scores that have increased compared to 2023.
At the University of Education (Hue University), the record standard score of 29 for the chemistry pedagogy major in 2023 was overtaken by the mathematics pedagogy major with a standard score of 29.3 in 2024. Notably, the entire pedagogy major this year has an increased standard score compared to 2023.

Many other industries have absolute benchmarks
Besides pedagogical majors, many majors at universities have a standard score of over 19. In many majors, candidates must achieve a GPA of 10/10 to be admitted.
For example, at the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University), the priority admission method has a major where candidates must have a high school transcript score of 10/10 in all three subjects in the admission combination to be admitted.
The subjects of this admission method are students of specialized high schools, gifted high schools, excellent students in 3 years of high school, members of excellent student teams, with achievements...
Although the regulations are quite strict, for computer engineering (advanced program), candidates must have a GPA of 10/10 to be admitted, artificial intelligence is 9.9, data science is 9.85...
Hanoi Law University has an absolute benchmark score of 30/30 for two groups of candidates for admission to the economic law major.
Many other majors and groups also have a standard score of over 29 points. Although not absolutely 10/10, many majors at the Banking Academy have a high school transcript standard score of up to 29.9.
Without priority points, candidates must achieve an average of 9.67 points/subject to be admitted to the majors of auditing, banking, digital banking, finance, financial technology, international business, economic law, logistics and supply chain management.
At Foreign Trade University, some majors when converted to a 30-point scale have a standard score of up to 29.5 points.
Explaining the absolute score of 10/10, Ms. Hoang Thanh Tu - Deputy Head of the Information and Communication Department of the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - said that the priority admission method has quite a few quotas and many interested candidates. In addition, this method also has priority points for candidates who have won provincial, national and international prizes, up to a maximum of 0.5 points.
"This year, some majors have higher priority admission scores compared to last year. In addition, some majors have not too high admission scores, but candidates must be students from specialized schools or gifted schools, so they must be really good," Ms. Tu added.
