The work of preserving and promoting traditional cultural values ​​and eliminating backward customs among ethnic minorities has received special attention from all levels, sectors and localities in the province. From there, it aims to create a cultural and civilized living environment, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Mr. Quach Van Chieu, Party Secretary of Village 5, Xuan Du Commune (Nhu Thanh) said: The village currently has 143 households, with 634 people. Of which, Kinh ethnic people account for 70%, Muong ethnic people account for 30%. For Muong ethnic people, in the past, there were also some bad customs, especially weddings and funerals that were held for a long time, with lavish meals causing expenses. Therefore, the Village Front Committee has stepped up propaganda and mobilized Muong ethnic people to actively eliminate bad customs, build a cultural lifestyle in weddings and funerals. Pay attention to preserving and promoting the good cultural identity of their ethnic group, actively organizing cultural - artistic and sports activities. Along with that, the village has also built village covenants and conventions, which include the promotion of good customs and practices and propose solutions to limit and eventually eliminate backward customs and practices among the people. During the process of building new rural areas, the village has mobilized people to contribute to building cultural houses, playgrounds, and training grounds for entertainment and activities. At the same time, building a legal bookcase at the cultural house and increasing the supply of books and newspapers, contributing to the positive effect of propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's policies and laws to all classes of people.

From those methods, up to now, most of the villagers have built and practiced a cultural and civilized lifestyle. The Muong ethnic people also organize weddings and funerals in a concise, simple manner, without causing waste, and good cultural values ​​are also preserved and promoted by the people. Thanks to that, the rate of cultural families in the village annually reaches 99%. The people also actively participate in economic development, currently the whole village has only 1 poor household.

Xuan Du commune currently has 3 ethnic groups living together: Kinh, Thai, Muong. Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune, Truong Van Canh, said: In order for the ethnic groups in the village to preserve good traditional cultural values ​​and eliminate bad customs from life, in recent years, the commune has promoted propaganda for people to understand and actively implement the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", through village and hamlet meetings, cultural - artistic and sports activities. The commune also actively cooperates with organizations to actively and proactively propagate and disseminate to members and people, effectively implementing many movements such as "A prosperous, equal, progressive and happy family", "A family of 5 no's, 3 cleans", of the commune's Women's Union; The movement to build "Cultural Farmer Families", "Good Farmers" of the Farmers' Association... In order for people to have places to play and live, the commune has a policy to support villages to build new cultural houses at 430 million VND/1 cultural house, and support the repair and expansion of cultural houses at 300 million VND/1 cultural house. Thanks to that, the villages have mobilized people to contribute to build spacious and clean cultural houses. Currently, all 13/13 villages in the commune have achieved the title of cultural village. Cultural and sports activities are increasingly developing vigorously, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Thuong Xuan district currently has 3 ethnic groups living together: Thai, Muong and Kinh. Each ethnic group has its own cultural nuances from customs, language, writing... including good customs and practices that need to be preserved and promoted, but there are also some bad customs that have a significant impact on socio-economic development and people's lives that need to be eliminated. In order for ethnic groups in the district, especially Thai and Muong ethnic groups, to eliminate bad customs and build a new cultural life, the district has focused on preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values ​​of the ethnic communities in the area, including reviving a number of festivals of the Thai ethnic group such as the Nang Han festival, the new rice festival, folk songs, folk dances... In addition, the district also encourages people to promote the implementation and improve the quality of the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", cultural families. Building a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals... Thanks to that, the cultural life at the grassroots level in the district has been significantly improved, demonstrated through the mass sports and arts movements that have been organized with attention, attracting a large number of people to participate. Weddings, funerals and festivals are increasingly becoming routine, carried out in a civilized way.

Thanh Hoa is a province with many ethnic minorities living together. Eliminating bad customs, building a civilized lifestyle along with preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural identities of the ethnic groups in the province is an important task. In recent years, all levels, sectors and organizations in the province have deployed and promoted propaganda and mobilized people to effectively implement Directive No. 27-CT/TW on implementing a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals and Conclusion No. 51-KL/TW dated July 22, 2009 of the Politburo, gradually pushing back bad customs and superstitions, contributing to building a civilized lifestyle in the province. Up to now, weddings have basically been organized solemnly, civilly and economically in accordance with national traditions and cultural identities of each region. Funeral rituals are organized neatly, hygienically, civilly and economically. The most typical example is Muong Lat district, which has actively encouraged people to effectively implement a civilized lifestyle in funerals.

Along with that, the construction and completion of conventions and village covenants continue to be effectively implemented by localities in the province. In the period of 2021-2023, the whole province has had 4,357/4,357 village covenants and conventions recognized, reaching a rate of 100%. Through the synchronous implementation of solutions, it has contributed to pushing back bad customs, bringing cultural and civilized lifestyles increasingly present in people's lives. Thereby, contributing to preserving good cultural identity, creating a driving force to promote socio-economic development.
