Windows 11's next feature update is expected later this spring, just a few months before Microsoft releases its next-generation Windows operating system for desktops (tentatively called Windows 12) that will focus heavily on AI. This update also includes a dedicated hardware key for Copilot.
Windows 11 will have version 24H1 with Wi-Fi 7 support
Dell announced new XPS laptops and promotional materials this week that support Wi-Fi 7, among other features. A footnote says that Wi-Fi 7 requires Windows 11 “version 24H1, which will not be available for download until April 24…”.
As a major hardware partner of Microsoft, Dell knows about upcoming Windows versions. Additionally, this statement is consistent with the recently released Intel Wi-Fi 7 driver with “pending OS support.” A recent Netgear post also revealed that Wi-Fi 7 requires a Windows 11 update, according to Neowin .
There's no word on whether Microsoft plans to release a major version update for Windows 11 in the first half of 2024, so Dell's promotional material could be referring to the upcoming, smaller "Moment 5" update.
Whatever Microsoft calls the next Windows 11 update, the timeline Dell mentioned makes sense. The “Moment 5” update (or version 24H1, according to Dell) is expected to finish development in February, appear as an optional update for “searchers” in March, and be fully rolled out in April.
