To celebrate the 79th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day (March 27), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Olympic Committee and the Hanoi People's Committee coordinated to organize the program Vietnam Sports Glory 2025.
At the event, the organizing committee announced and awarded the President's Third Class Labor Medal to disabled athlete Le Van Cong and coach Le Quang Thai - Cong's teacher.
Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism - said: "The Vietnam Sports Glory Program is not only a meaningful event to honor and reward outstanding athletes and coaches, but also an opportunity to review the formation and development of Vietnamese sports over the past 79 years. Create motivation to promote the patriotic emulation movement of the entire industry, striving to complete the important tasks set out in 2025".
At the end of 2024, sports journalists across the country voted for outstanding athletes, coaches, disabled athletes, and coaches of people with disabilities nationwide of the year.
Based on the voting results, the Vietnam Sports Glory 2025 program honored the most outstanding individuals. The title of National Outstanding Athlete 2024 belonged to female shooter Trinh Thu Vinh (shooting). In 2024, Thu Vinh won the Asian Gold Medal and 4th place in the Olympics.
Meanwhile, the title of National Outstanding Disabled Athlete belongs to weightlifter Le Van Cong. In 2024, Cong won 1 Paralympic bronze medal; 2 gold medals, 1 World Cup bronze medal.

List of 10 outstanding national athletes in 2024: Trinh Thu Vinh (shooting), Tran Quyet Chien (billiards), Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen (volleyball), Nguyen Thi Huong (canoeing), Pham Thi Hue (rowing), Nguyen Thuy Linh (badminton), Nguyen Thi That (cycling), Ha Thi Linh (boxing), Tran Thi Nhi Yen (athletics) and Do Thi Anh Nguyet (archery).
In the category of outstanding coaches, the honored coaches voted include: Nguyen Tuan Kiet (volleyball), Nguyen Viet Hoa (billiards), Nguyen Dinh Hoang (women's futsal), Luu Van Hoan (canoeing), Tran Quoc Cuong (shooting).
In the category of disabled athletes, the top 5 outstanding athletes nationwide in 2024 include: Le Van Cong (weightlifting), Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (weightlifting), Le Tien Dat (swimming), Do Thanh Hai (swimming), Doan Thu Huyen (chess).
The 3 outstanding national coaches for people with disabilities in 2024 are: Le Quang Thai (weightlifting), Nguyen Dang Vien (swimming) and Bui Quang Vu (chess).
In the category of outstanding sports team, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team won after a year of impressive success in the international arena with achievements: champion of the Challenger Cup, 3rd place in the FIVB Challenger Cup.
Later in this poll, the Vietnamese women's futsal team (Southeast Asian champion, gold medal at international tournament in Thailand); the women's 4 x 400m relay athletics team (Asian gold medal).
Speaking at the ceremony, shooter Trinh Thu Vinh said that the title of No. 1 outstanding athlete of Vietnamese sports in 2024 is a valuable reward for her. However, Vinh hopes that she and Vietnamese shooting will receive more investment to have the conditions to train and compete abroad, have full equipment to practice, and bring back achievements.
Responding to SEA Games 33 in Thailand
Also at the Vietnam Sports Glory 2025 program, the Vietnam Sports Administration launched a response to the 33rd SEA Games and 13th ASEAN Para Games taking place in Thailand next December.
A representative of the Thai Embassy in Vietnam attending the ceremony said: Thailand is proud to host the 33rd SEA Games from December 9 to 20 in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla provinces. Thailand is committed to providing a world-class sporting experience, ensuring top-notch facilities, sustainable infrastructure and a warm welcome for athletes and visitors.
SEA Games 33 is the most important task in 2025 for Vietnamese sports. The team's goal is to be in the top 3 of the games, trying to be in the top 2.
Also on the morning of March 22, the sports industry launched Olympic Run Day for Public Health. Nearly 1,000 delegates, guests, coaches, and athletes participated in the Olympic Run Day for Public Health at the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center.
