The award has been held annually since 2020 to honor and encourage provinces, cities, real estate investors, industrial real estate, and technology enterprises with solutions to help cities develop smarter, more sustainably, bringing convenience to people, while connecting supply and demand, cooperating in building suitable models to accelerate the construction and development of smart cities in Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, VINASA Chairman Nguyen Van Khoa said that, along with the Vietnam - Asia Smart City Conference 2023, the ceremony is one of a series of annual activities for agencies, businesses, and policy-making units on urban policies.

Along with the digital transformation trend, authorities at all levels have developed smart city projects, focusing first on smartening the urban government management and operation system, promoting the development of digital society and digital economy.
As noted at the Vietnam Smart City Awards and Conference 2023, many cities and urban areas have moved to phase 2 - Building smart, sustainable cities, focusing on people and businesses. People and businesses are no longer just beneficiaries but have become important components, participating in the connection system and smart urban areas of cities.
Smart cities have many new features compared to previous years with the construction of unified digital infrastructure data, data has also been standardized and included in the planning strategy. In addition, smart cities are aimed at people and businesses, these are the subjects directly involved in connecting to the core of products, services and solutions to create and build smart cities.

This year's award was launched on July 20. After nearly 3 months of implementation, the award received 100 nominations and the Organizing Committee selected 32 Vietnam Smart City Awards 2023, including: 7 awards for 4 urban management units; 1 award for industrial real estate, 24 awards for excellent technology services and solutions.
According to the Organizing Committee, the Smart City Awards 2023 also witnessed the development of technology solutions integrating new technology trends, especially IoT and AI. These solutions were mostly designed and developed by Vietnamese enterprises. Of which, 24 digital solutions were awarded the Smart City Awards from 19 enterprises.
According to the 2022 report of the Ministry of Construction, after 5 years of implementing Decision No. 950/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on sustainable smart urban development in Vietnam for the period 2018 - 2025 and orientation to 2030, Vietnam has 48/63 provinces and cities implementing smart urban development projects. This decision has opened up directions for cooperation and development between urban authorities at all levels and domestic and international businesses and partners, and is gradually shaping a number of prominent trends in building smart, livable, and sustainably developed cities in Vietnam. |
