On the afternoon of March 4, Mr. Dang Thanh Sang - Director of the Center for Ecotourism, Environmental Education and Rescue and Development of Creatures in U Minh Thuong National Park (U Minh Thuong District, Kien Giang) - said that although tourism is exploited, the unit has absolute control.
U Minh Thuong National Park recently had a project and plan to exploit ecotourism services approved by competent authorities and ensured no impact on the strictly protected area and forest resources in this park.
Tourists coming to visit will take a boat tour to see the beautiful scenery of the forest, seasonal flooded grasslands, watch birds, monkeys...
For recreational fishing services, the unit arranges fishing spots along the banks and water fields (outside the core zone of U Minh Thuong National Park, not affecting the strictly protected area).
Exploiting eco-tourism services, the unit also carries out conservation, preservation and forest fire prevention work.
"Every year during the dry season, the forest is at risk of level 3 fire. We will limit visitors and staff will guide and propagate to protect the forest.
"For forest fires at level 4 or higher, the unit will have a document to temporarily suspend tourism exploitation to protect the forest until it rains and is safe to reopen to welcome guests," said Mr. Sang.

Every year, U Minh Thuong National Park welcomes nearly 30,000 visitors.
The unit is submitting a project to develop eco-tourism for the period 2025 to 2030 and is also calling for tourism investment so that tourists will have a better and more impressive service experience with the unique scenery of natural melaleuca forests and seasonally flooded grasslands.
Previously, Tuoi Tre Online published an article "Visitors love fishing for giant snakehead fish and watching yellow water fern in U Minh Thuong National Park", a reader named Thu Lan asked: "This is a national park, a heritage park, so let it follow the natural process, so why are they allowing fishing services... Why not let it follow the natural biological cycle in the food chain?".
U Minh Thuong National Park was established under Decision No. 11/QD-TTg dated January 14, 2002 of the Prime Minister.
U Minh Thuong National Park is located in An Minh Bac and Minh Thuan communes (U Minh Thuong district). The natural area of this park is about 21,107 hectares, including a core area of 8,038 hectares (a strictly protected area of about 914 hectares) and a buffer zone of more than 13,000 hectares.
Forest conditions in the park include Melaleuca forests, seasonally flooded grasslands, aquatic swamps, creeks and channels.
In 2012, U Minh Thuong National Park was recognized as the first ASEAN Heritage Park on peatlands in Southeast Asia. This is also the 5th national park in Vietnam to be recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Park.
In 2015, U Minh Thuong National Park was recognized as the 2,228th Ramsar site in the world and the 8th in Vietnam.
