As Thanh Nien reported, a petition titled 'Application for not participating in the 10th grade entrance exam, school year 2024-2025' is circulating on social networking forums, which is said to have originated from Nguyen Van Bua Secondary School. On May 12, the Hoc Mon District Department of Education and Training reported the incident to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
According to the report of the Department of Education and Training of Hoc Mon district, the above information was written by a 9/5 grade student of Nguyen Van Bua Secondary School. Then, a friend of this student's parent took a photo and posted it on social media while the parents were sitting in a coffee shop.
Previously, the parent of the above-mentioned 9/5 grade student texted the homeroom teacher as follows: "My child did not take the 10th grade entrance exam to a public school. But he still submitted his 10th grade application to a private school, and he will continue to study in high school. So my family's wish is for him to study in a private school."
Application for not taking the 10th grade entrance exam given to parents
After verification, the form "Application for not taking the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year" was issued by the school. According to Nguyen Van Bua Secondary School, the reason for issuing this form was to learn from experience in the previous school year. According to the report of the homeroom teacher, there was a family "whose father agreed to let his child not take the exam but the mother wanted her child to take the 10th grade entrance exam" so they came to the school to question and complain to the homeroom teacher, so they were forced to make a clear commitment.
Upon receiving the information, the Department of Education and Training of Hoc Mon district directed the school to immediately contact the student's parents and report the specific incident.
The Hoc Mon District Department of Education and Training has directed school leaders to immediately review all cases of grade 9 students who wish not to attend public grade 10 schools in order to provide timely advice and coordination with their families. Remind school leaders about general management and student admissions counseling in accordance with the direction. The District Department of Education and Training will organize a meeting to remind and review relevant individuals to draw lessons for the entire industry.
Also according to Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hoc Mon district, in the regular meeting with the principals of secondary schools on May 2, the leaders of the Department of Education and Training thoroughly informed and reminded the schools about the task of considering and recognizing secondary school graduation and the preparation for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year. In particular, they emphasized that they only advise students and their parents on choosing their 10th grade entrance exam wishes, while the final decision belongs to the family and the student. The Department of Education and Training does not use the results of the 10th grade entrance exam as a criterion for evaluating the competition of schools and the schools do not require parents and students to submit an application not to take the 10th grade entrance exam.
According to the report of Nguyen Van Bua Secondary School, previously on May 4, at the meeting of the pedagogical council, the school leaders noted that the responsibility for consulting belongs to the school board and the homeroom teacher of grade 9, but the decision to take the exam or not is the right of the students and their families. Teachers do not force students in any form. The school does not use the results of the 10th grade entrance exam as a criterion for evaluating competition.
