This photo series was also submitted by the author to the Photo and Video Contest "Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam" , organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Bai Dinh Pagoda is an ancient pagoda that has witnessed thousands of years of heroic history of the Vietnamese people. The pagoda was founded by Zen master Nguyen Minh Khong in 1136 in Ninh Binh, part of the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex. He is known as one of the great monks who made great contributions to building and developing the foundation of Buddhism here.
For over 1000 years, the pagoda has existed throughout the history of the three great dynasties: Dinh, Tien Le and Ly. During the period when Dinh Tien Hoang unified the country and suppressed the rebellion of 12 warlords, he chose Bai Dinh pagoda as the place to set up an altar to pray for harmony and favorable conditions.
The temple architecture stands out with large, majestic blocks bearing a strong Vietnamese imprint, using many main local materials such as Ninh Binh green stone, Tu Thiet wood, Bat Trang glazed tiles...
Besides, the pagoda is also the place where King Quang Trung set up an altar to worship the flag and confided his thoughts to the soldiers before the great march to defeat the invading Qing army. Having gone through many ups and downs and historical events, Bai Dinh Ninh Binh Pagoda still stands tall and solemn despite the storms./.
