Temple of Literature develops sustainable poverty reduction economic model

In recent years, the Party Committee and the government of Van Mieu commune, Thanh Son district have focused on mobilizing all resources and drastically implementing many synchronous solutions to implement poverty reduction work in the area and have achieved practical results. Thanks to that, the rate of poor and near-poor households has gradually decreased each year, the material and spiritual life of the people in the commune has improved, and the socio-economic situation has increasingly developed.

The model of raising pigs for meat and wild boar for sale of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chung in Mat 1 area brings practical economic efficiency.

Van Mieu currently has 1,992 households with 8,116 people living in 14 residential areas, including 5 extremely difficult areas including Trong, Xe 1, Xe 2, Thanh Cong, Tam Van. The whole commune has 3 ethnic groups living together, of which the Muong ethnic group accounts for 75%. In order to do a good job of developing economic models, increasing income, and reducing poverty for the people, in recent years, the Party Committee and the commune government have focused on doing a good job of widely disseminating the Party's policies and the State's policies on poverty reduction, in order to raise awareness, gradually eliminate the mentality of waiting, relying on and promoting the will to escape poverty of the people. Every year, the commune conducts surveys and reviews of poor households in accordance with regulations and synthesizes and classifies poor groups to have appropriate support and assistance measures and solutions.

The commune directed associations and organizations such as the Farmers' Association, Veterans' Association, Women's Association and Youth Union to step up coordination and help people access preferential loans, especially capital from the Social Policy Bank. Accordingly, up to now, the total outstanding bank debt in the commune has reached 200 billion VND with over 1,900 households borrowing capital, of which 125 billion VND is from the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, 41 billion VND is from the Social Policy Bank, the rest is capital from the Farmers' Support Fund, TYM Fund and other commercial banks. This is the source of capital to help production and business households, poor households, near-poor households, and households in difficult circumstances in the area borrow capital to solve employment problems, invest in production development, livestock farming, etc. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chung in Mat 1 area said: "With the support of the commune, my family has access to credit capital, along with the support of relatives, I have opened a pig farm for more than a year, currently maintaining a scale of 15 sows and more than 200 commercial pigs. The model has gradually stabilized and is growing."

In addition, every year, the commune conducts a survey on people's vocational training needs, coordinates the organization of training, fostering, and vocational training courses suitable for serving agricultural production and other industries and occupations in the area; focuses on vocational training, labor export, and job creation for rural workers...

Officials of Van Mieu commune regularly follow closely, directly go to the grassroots to listen to people's thoughts and aspirations, promptly resolve difficulties, help people raise awareness, and promote the will to rise up and escape poverty.

Comrade Ha Van Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: "Identifying sustainable poverty reduction is one of the important tasks, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and building new rural areas. In recent times, in addition to mobilizing the entire political system to participate, the commune has also effectively exploited the potential and advantages of the locality; replicated highly effective economic models; created favorable conditions for poor households to promote their internal strength to rise up in life, effectively utilized national target programs, created livelihoods to help people develop production, increase income and sustainably reduce poverty".

With effective methods in poverty reduction, in 2024, the average income per capita is estimated to reach 42 million VND/person/year; the labor structure shifts towards agriculture, forestry and fishery accounting for 45%, small-scale industry - construction 28%, services 27%; the rate of solidified rural roads reaches 65%, the rate of people participating in health insurance reaches 85%; the multidimensional poverty rate maintains an annual decrease, through preliminary review, the whole commune has now reduced to 151 poor households, accounting for 7.63%; the near-poor have 121 households, accounting for 6.07%.
