Ukraine arrests a Colonel; Ukraine attacks Russian oil refinery,... are notable news that will be in the Russia-Ukraine war news bulletin on the morning of January 26.

Ukrainian colonel arrested

Updating the situation of the Russia-Ukraine war, Business Insider (USA) reported that the reputation of Brigade 155 has become very bad in Ukraine when local reporters reported that this unit is facing mass desertion and is being divided into small forces to reinforce other units.

Ukrainian reporter Yuriy Butusov estimated that 1,700 soldiers deserted before the 155th Brigade was sent into combat.

Colonel Dmytro Ryumshin - commander of the 155th Brigade - suddenly announced his resignation in early December 2024 as the brigade prepared to deploy to the front line.

Bohdan Zabara - Mr. Ryumshin's lawyer - told Business Insider (BI) that the Colonel has been ordered to leave his position.

Ukrainian investigators arrested Mr Ryumshin on January 20, accusing him of “systematically concealing” desertions within his unit.

The State Investigation Bureau of Ukraine said that Colonel Ryumshin received both verbal and written notices about the situation but did not inform his superiors or act on them.

“As a result of the commander’s actions, law enforcement officers were unable to initiate legal proceedings to find and return the soldiers to their army units and reserve battalions, or in some cases, ensure that they had served their sentences for the crimes they had committed,” investigators said.

Lawyer Zabara told Suspilne TV (Ukraine) that Mr. Ryumshin will contest the bail amount set by the Ukrainian authorities. If he does not pay the bail, he will be detained for 60 days.

Zabara also told BI that prosecutors are charging Ryumshin based on whether he reported desertions to the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine, not on whether he acted on the desertions of his soldiers.

Zabara added that Ukrainian law only requires Ryumshin to report corruption cases to the State Bureau of Investigation, not desertions.

Suspilne reported that Ryumshin made similar statements during his hearing, with the Colonel saying that he had reported the desertion to law enforcement officers.

Russian artillery attacks Ukrainian positions on the front line

According to Zvezda, on January 23, the Russian Ministry of Defense posted a video recording the scene of artillery attacking a Ukrainian stronghold in the direction of Krasnoarmeysky.

"The Orlan-30 reconnaissance UAV detected an enemy stronghold near a forest. Immediately after determining the specific coordinates, the artillery unit of the Central Task Force used the Malka artillery to launch a raid. The precise attack leveled the Ukrainian stronghold," the Russian side said.

The 2S7M Malka self-propelled gun entered service with the Soviet Army in 1983, along with its predecessor, the 2S7 Pion. It is still in service with a number of countries, including Russia and Ukraine.

The 2S7M Malka has a 203mm caliber artillery shell, designed to perform tasks such as suppressing and eliminating specially protected command facilities, artillery batteries, mortars, armored vehicles, rear bases and enemy personnel. The rate of fire of this artillery shell is up to 2.5 rounds/minute, with a range of about 50km.
