What changes in enrollment in grade 6 of high-quality schools in Hanoi this year?

NDO - High-quality secondary schools in Hanoi are recruiting 6th grade students for the 2025-2026 school year without following the admission route. Due to the large number of students registering every year and exceeding the quota, these schools implement the admission method based on the criteria of reviewing academic records, assessing capacity in the form of questions and answers, writing, presentations...

Often the number of applications exceeds the enrollment quota, so unlike public secondary schools in Hanoi that only enroll students based on enrollment, schools recognized by the City People's Committee as high-quality schools do not enroll based on enrollment and will have a specific enrollment plan every year.

According to Circular 30/TT-BGDDT on the Regulations on Secondary School Admissions and High School Admissions issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the method of secondary school admissions is based on selection, and the selection criteria are specifically guided by the Department of Education and Training, ensuring that the selection process is fair, objective, transparent, and appropriate to the actual situation in the locality.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has recently issued admission guidelines for kindergartens, grades 1 and 6 for the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, for grade 6 admission, schools recognized by the City People's Committee as high-quality schools will not enroll students according to the enrollment route. When these schools have a number of students registering in excess of the quota, they will enroll students based on criteria based on academic results, primary school training results, or student capacity assessment results in forms such as: question-and-answer, writing, presentation, etc.

Secondary schools, based on practical conditions, report their enrollment plans to the Department of Education and Training and submit them to the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities for approval. Districts, towns and cities shall prescribe the forms of student capacity assessment, ensuring that enrollment is carried out fairly, objectively, transparently and in accordance with practical conditions.

Hanoi currently has five high-quality public secondary schools, including Nam Tu Liem Secondary School, Thanh Xuan Secondary School, Cau Giay Secondary School, Le Loi Secondary School (Ha Dong District), and Chu Van An Secondary School (Long Bien).

These schools often have many more students applying than their enrollment quota. This year, in their enrollment plans, schools are expected to make some adjustments to suit reality and ensure convenience for students and their parents.

Representatives of the schools said that, up to now, high-quality schools have proposed specific admission options. School leaders also said that in the proposal, priority is given to admission options based on primary school learning and training results combined with direct assessment through assessment tests because this is a less expensive option, ensuring publicity, transparency, suitability to practical conditions and compliance with regulations.

At Cau Giay Secondary School, the plan may change compared to last year. A school representative said that the school plans to only use the direct admission method using three competency assessment tests.

One of the notable points in this year's enrollment plan of high-quality schools is that tuition fees may increase according to the roadmap. The increase will not exceed 10% compared to last year. This adjustment is to meet the need for investment in improving facilities and improving the quality of education.

Once the enrollment plan is approved, schools will soon announce it so that parents and students can get the information and best prepare for the upcoming enrollment period.
