Deputy Minister of Education and Training: Adding strange combinations does not help schools recruit more

These are combinations that do not have subjects related to the training program being recruited. For example, Biotechnology does not have Biology, History Education does not have History, Geography Education does not have Geography, and Physics Education does not have Physics.

These odd combinations make public opinion wonder about the quality of the recruitment source.

At the 2025 Admissions Conference held by the Ministry of Education and Training today in Hai Phong, Mr. Nguyen Huu Cong, Thai Nguyen University, shared new points in this year's Admissions Regulations that are in line with practical requirements. According to Mr. Cong, the Ministry of Education and Training still needs to control early admissions because there has been information that some schools have sent out letters announcing admissions.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, the results of the 2024 enrollment showed that training institutions were using too many admission methods, causing information interference. There were more than 200 methods with no or very few candidates registering; fairness between admission methods was not ensured. Many training institutions had not analyzed the correlation and compared the learning outcomes of students according to the admission methods.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son emphasized that recently, the press agency talked about the issue of strange combinations and said it right. Mr. Son analyzed that in previous years, candidates studied the 2006 education program, high school level studied all subjects. When taking the graduation exam, students took 6 of the subjects they had studied. Thus, even though they did not take the exam, students had basic knowledge of all subjects.

But this year, students study according to the 2018 education program, there are many subjects that students do not choose to study. Therefore, for example, the Physics Pedagogy major does not recruit Physics in the combination, it is very likely that the candidate did not choose to study Physics throughout the 3 years of high school. When entering university, students only have knowledge of Physics at the secondary level when studying Natural Sciences. So, how can students study Physics at university level? "It is recommended that schools need to adjust the admission process to link university with general education. Expanding the admission combination may not necessarily recruit more candidates, but it is certainly unreasonable," said Mr. Son. Therefore, Mr. Son believes that expanding the admission combination unreasonably is sometimes disadvantageous for schools when public opinion and the press get involved.
