On the afternoon of March 27, the Standing Committee of Dong Ha City Party Committee (Quang Tri province) said that it had proactively proposed a plan to rearrange the city's grassroots administrative units .

"The Standing Committee of the City Party Committee is very concerned and proposes a plan for arrangement based on the wishes of the people, retired officials, and the current situation of the city.

The plan also takes into account development orientation, inheritance and innovation, so that Dong Ha can maintain its position as the "heart" of Quang Tri province," said Mr. Le Quang Chien - Secretary of Dong Ha City Party Committee.

Dong Ha currently has an area of ^​​73km2 , population of 109,000 people, 9 wards.

According to the proposal, option 1 is to keep the city as it is and change it to Dong Ha ward. This option has the advantage of having a large area, a large population, and enough room for development. However, the difficulty in arranging staff when the new staffing is more limited will lead to a large workload and difficulty in state management.

Option 2 is to divide into two wards. In which, Nam Dong Ha ward includes Dong Luong ward, Dong Le ward, ward 5 and Khe Lap quarter of ward 3. Khe Lap quarter is isolated and adjacent to Dong Luong ward.

"This is also an opportunity to rearrange administrative boundaries so that Nam Dong Ha ward meets the population and area criteria," said Mr. Chien.

The remaining new ward to the north is Dong Ha ward, including wards 1, 2, 4, Dong Thanh, Dong Giang and ward 3 (except Khe Lap quarter). This ward has enough population but lacks area, so the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee proposed to merge Thanh An commune (Cam Lo district).

Thanh An commune, together with Dong Thanh and Dong Giang wards, was formerly An Lac commune since the time of the Nguyen lords with a similar and connected history, culture, and tradition.

The plan to divide the two wards will have a population equal to the minimum standard (50,000 people/ward).

In contrast to option 1, dividing the two wards will make it easier to arrange staff, the workload of the new ward will be less, but the room for development will also be somewhat limited.

The leader of Dong Ha City Party Committee said that this is only a proposal of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, based on listening to the opinions and wishes of the people, retired officials... This proposal must still be considered by the leaders of Quang Tri province.

Dong Ha City is the political, economic, cultural and social center of Quang Tri Province. The city is located at the intersection of National Highway 1 (the North-South arterial route) and National Highway 9 (the route connecting Laos and Thailand); located on the east side of the East-West economic corridor.

With its favorable geographical location, Dong Ha plays an important role in economic and cultural exchange between domestic and international regions.
