Sentencing defendants in a 1,200 billion VND gambling ring

On the afternoon of April 5, after 2 days of trial, the People's Court of Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi City announced the first instance verdict for 53 defendants involved in the online gambling ring led by Nguyen Minh Thanh (born in 1989, residing in Ba Dinh District, Hanoi).

Accordingly, Nguyen Minh Thanh was sentenced to 5 years in prison for the crime of "Organizing gambling"; Vu Tien Duy - who played an active role as an accomplice with Thanh and illegally benefited from a large amount of money, was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison; Thanh's junior Tran Duc Cuong received 3 years in prison. In the group of crimes of "Gambling", 42 defendants received sentences ranging from 33 months of suspended imprisonment to 4 years in prison.

According to the verdict, Nguyen Minh Thanh and his accomplices wrote software and operated card games. In nearly 6 months, Thanh and his accomplices set up 160 agents of all levels to serve the online gambling system. This line attracted over 6,600 player accounts, depositing a total of nearly 1,200 billion VND.
