On the morning of August 18, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Ngai province held a ceremony to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the martyrdom of Hero Truong Dinh (August 20, 1864 - August 20, 2024) and received the Certificate of National Monument Ranking for Truong Dinh Temple.
Mr. Tran Hoang Tuan, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, read the memorial speech: Hero Truong Dinh was born in 1820, Tu Cung village, now Tinh Khe commune, Quang Ngai city. In 1854, responding to the land reclamation policy of the Nguyen Dynasty, he recruited poor people, established a plantation to reclaim land and establish a hamlet in Gia Thuan (now Go Cong Dong district, Tien Giang province). Later, the Nguyen Dynasty appointed him as Deputy Quan Co, then Quan Co and Chief of the district. The local people in the area called him Quan Dinh.
In 1859, when the French army expanded its invasion of the South, Truong Dinh recruited troops, established a military base in Go Cong, raised the flag of uprising and won many important victories, terrifying the enemy. Thanks to his talent, courage, bravery, pioneering in battles and many achievements, the Nguyen Dynasty court appointed him to the position of Deputy Commander of Gia Dinh.
With his military strategy, prestige, and the trust of the soldiers and people, Truong Dinh built Go Cong into the strongest resistance center, promoting the strong development of patriotic movements in the region and the South. In February 1863, the soldiers built an altar to worship the general, honoring him as "Binh Tay Dai Nguyen Soai", calling themselves "Trung Thien Tuong Quan".
In 1864, after the death of Generalissimo of the Western Front Truong Dinh, people built many temples and shrines in his name to commemorate his personality, talent and great contributions.
In Quang Ngai, Truong Dinh Temple was built in 2007, located at the foot of Dau Voi Mountain with a total area of 26,668m2 . In 2014, Truong Dinh Temple was ranked as a provincial relic by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. By 2023, it was ranked as a national relic by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
At the ceremony, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Ngai province received the Certificate of National Monument Ranking for Truong Dinh Temple.
