Career counseling for students should not be limited to the domestic scope.

Thanh Nien Newspaper held a ceremony to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Exam Season Consulting and launch the 2024 enrollment communication activities in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of October 31. Not only gathering a large number of educational institutions and businesses from provinces and cities, the program also attracted many units of career counseling, study abroad and foreign language training, in the context of study abroad markets around the world recovering and developing strongly after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Willing to help

Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper, Ms. Doan Thi Oanh, Deputy Director of Duc Anh Study Abroad Consulting Company, expressed her appreciation for the meaningful results that Exam Season Consulting has brought to millions of students over the past 25 years. However, to fully equip and orient the "picture" of enrollment in the current trend, Ms. Oanh proposed a program to expand the "border" with the participation of foreign higher education institutions.

"Very different from the first year of organizing Exam Season Consulting, finding opportunities to study and work abroad is now extremely popular. Therefore, the program can integrate information about studying abroad to meet this need. And with more than 20 years of experience, we are willing to share with Thanh Nien Newspaper the most accurate and updated information, thereby bringing opportunities and the best preparation for generations of students," Ms. Oanh affirmed.

The female deputy director also noted that the issues that parents and students often care about when choosing to study abroad are the appropriate form of training and country, "hot" career trends in developed countries, conditions for winning high-value scholarships, even full scholarships. "From these topics, the program can organize seminars, set up study abroad consulting tables, publish in-depth handbooks to send to students...", Ms. Oanh "suggested".

The spirit of companionship was also emphasized by Mr. Thomas Nguyen, CEO of Franco-Viet Edu, in the interview. "If Thanh Nien Newspaper needs it, we are ready to support, for example, acting as a 'bridge' between the Exam Consulting program and all universities in France. Our goal, like many other educators, is to help young Vietnamese generations proudly reach out to the world," said Mr. Thomas.

According to the male director, the reason why many students choose to study abroad is because they want to learn more about their profession in a developed country, explore a new culture and environment, thereby building up their own experiences and progressive thinking, while also having a stronger motivation to study and "will to survive" when they have to be alone in a foreign country.

"And to successfully organize a study abroad information program, it is necessary to answer three important questions: finance, career and the ability to find a job after graduation. This not only requires study abroad experts but also requires the presence of representatives from foreign schools to 'untangle' students' concerns and worries," Mr. Thomas assessed.

Don't treat fields like "attachments"

From another perspective, Dr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, majoring in educational management at the University of Hertfordshire (UK), currently the Director of Mr.Q International Career Education Organization, said that in the consulting and career guidance activities of many other units in Vietnam, foreign schools often appear as an "attachment" because 90% of the organization's time is spent promoting Vietnamese programs.

"This is not an optimal way of doing things and is also a lesson to learn from. If we really want to attract foreign schools, we need to 'open up to the max' by creating parallel programs, or increasing the program duration, or allocating reasonable organization time, maybe in a ratio of 7:3. We must objectively recognize that foreign schools also have enrollment needs and are willing to contribute human resources and finances," Mr. Quang stated his opinion.

According to Dr. Quang, the reputation of the organizing unit and the level of access to the target audience are two factors that influence the decision of foreign schools, and Thanh Nien Newspaper is fully capable of meeting this need. "The only problem is whether the schools have the opportunity to accompany and be supported thoroughly or not. This requires clearer steps from the program instead of passively waiting for the schools to approach," Mr. Quang suggested.

After 25 years of organization, the Exam Consulting program is preparing to "turn a new page" with many new changes suitable for the contemporary educational context.

In addition to understanding about studying abroad, careful preparation of foreign language skills is also a decisive factor in "success or failure" in the journey abroad. "Therefore, Exam Season Consulting should also have the support of foreign language training centers, through activities such as sharing the importance of foreign languages, or how to choose the right center", Ms. Nguyen Trinh Hanh Phuc, General Director of IELTS Vietop English System, shared.

"This is a move to simplify the admission process to schools while improving English language proficiency, helping to increase the competitiveness of young human resources in the context of international integration. And we hope to be able to accompany Thanh Nien Newspaper in admission programs to spread this message, as well as award scholarships to excellent and studious students," Ms. Phuc expressed.
