I have read the work many times and followed the articles introducing Thuy Lan in newspapers, websites, and Facebook of author Le Huu Binh. In this modern era 4.0, people write a lot of poetry but very few compose narrative poems (in the form of long poems and novels) because it is difficult, complicated... Perhaps people tend to prefer free verse epic poems because they are easier to compose. Some works are also up to a few thousand verses long. The six-eight verse poem Thuy Lan consists of 8 chapters with 4248 verses. It has been reprinted for the 6th time since 2017 by the Literature Publishing House of the Vietnam Writers Association. Up to now, tens of thousands of people have read it and thousands of people love it. The narrative poem is like an epic of the current human situation.
The story's content is to sketch a businesswoman with enough Beauty - Heart - Talent at the peak of Hanoi. Thuy Lan received basic education, graduated from school and struggled to build up from nothing but established a large company, created a lot of material wealth for society, contributed to charity to help the poor and unfortunate lives, from her own love and compassion, for her compatriots and comrades today. The story establishes the proactive creativity, rising up without fear of difficulties, hardships, self-reliance and self-reliance to master life and family. Under the leadership of our Party, this is a perfect model in the revolutionary and innovative work of building the country. Especially in the period of opening up and building a socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam.
The story shows the continuous struggle between the old and the new, between the positive and the negative, showing the factors for the common good of our society. The conflicts arising from situations are always resolved harmoniously, where there is tight leadership and exemplary cadres like Thuy Lan, there is victory. I find the poem very good, the content is profound and extremely attractive (not based on anyone's plot). It is very rare to have a long poem that the more you read, the more you believe in the Party, the Government... like Thuy Lan's poem. The story also boldly names corrupt, opportunistic and petty officials. Of course, they are all punished appropriately by law.
Many great intellectuals of cultural ideology, high-ranking scholars have read the entire work and given extremely valuable comments, with golden words. As Huu Thinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association once commented: "Thousands of talented and good verses, so good" or Academician, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Hieu - former member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Professor Tran Duy Quy - Director, Permanent Deputy of the Truong Xuan Vietnam Poetry Review; Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Vo Ky Anh. Dozens of poets, writers, literary critics, teachers with hundreds of articles praised Thuy Lan as an exemplary Vietnamese girl in the renovation period. Here are some typical poems:
"Oh my, a masterpiece with a heart/ A jade-like, mellow, fragrant flower. Spring petals in the middle of paradise/ Pink essence is polished along, jasmine scent is applied across. The curves are supple and smooth/ The autumn edge is thin, holding the moon close to its rim. The peach blossoms are green and tender… The enchanting beauty of Thuy Lan goes beyond the atmosphere: How gentle, gathering all the elements/ The light is reflected in the moon, the shape is alluring to the sky. Then the beautiful scene of heaven and earth from summer to autumn: The phoenix hall hears the fire of flowers cool/ A few drops of cicadas linger at the end of the branches."
And here are some philosophical poems about life: Secretly the one who harasses the other / The heart hopes for the one who is hurt, the mouth shows compassion... Also very philosophical about life: Joy mixed, Lan's fate is fleeting / The sound of the soldier's door is kind, the door is full of words. Or: Just learned about the affairs of life / The more the fire of trouble is more thorny. Gam, I'll tell you straight / Don't be close to each other anymore, that's love . Especially the smooth sentences of the six-eight rhyme but very impressive because of the small parallelism, skillful even in the eight-line, thinking that Tang poetry is not easy to have: People say you are good / Hiding the chess player from the outside, playing chess inside . Or: Hands write Patience, mouth says Heart / "Patience" in the heart makes the beast lose.
Open Google, type in Thuy Lan’s poem, and you will find Thuy Lan’s Facebook page, where there are hundreds of articles from all walks of life praising Thuy Lan. It is true that we are even more proud of Vietnamese women in modern times. In the past, when the whole nation fought against the Americans, Vietnamese women were famous worldwide for their “courage, loyalty, and steadfastness”. Today, Vietnamese women are “talented, beautiful, courageous, kind, and steadfast” and are second to none on Earth.
Since Thuy Lan was published, I have seen it introduced several times on television through short video reports... From 2023 to now, there have been articles in the Culture Newspaper (Ministry of Culture), the Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper. In particular, the Hanoi Writers Association's e-newspaper has so far published 15 consecutive excerpts about Thuy Lan's story. The first introduction was on August 6, 2023 in the Works and Public Opinion section (title: Literary Theory and Criticism). Right from the first article: "Some thoughts on the poem Thuy Lan" had 228 likes. The following articles in a row in this title from pages 1-4 still had hundreds, dozens of likes. Up to now, article 15 has reached 1023 likes. A record number of likes. It is true: "A good fragrance naturally attracts people's attention". The numbers speak for themselves, it is not wrong. I have read hundreds of articles from pages 1 - 10 in this title of the Hanoi Writers Association newspaper and have not seen any work that is as popular as this one.
The reason why many people like it is because it is special and meets all 4 criteria: Content - Art - Philosophy - Timeliness. And the theme of the whole work is also 4 issues, which are: Politics - Business - Love and Execution. These are really vibrant and prominent issues in today's life of our society. Good people are still exalted, bad people, opportunists, and corruption are all punished by law. Reading the Vietnamese poem Thuy Lan today, the story itself meets the expectations of the people, and is in line with the policies of the Party and the State. Thank you Colonel Le Huu Binh, a soldier (from Hoang Hoc, Dong Hoang, Dong Son, Thanh Hoa, now in Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi) in the past on the front line he killed enemies with guns and bullets. Now he kills corrupt enemies, corrupted internal invaders with pens and ink.
Although the poem "Thuy Lan" is long, the more you read it, the more interesting it becomes, so hundreds of articles (short or long depending on the writing style chosen) praise Thuy Lan. Thousands of sweet verses like that.
