(NLDO) - Thu Dau Mot University will establish new majors to anticipate the development of market demand.

On November 16, Thu Dau Mot University organized a seminar on developing smart agriculture in a green and sustainable direction for Binh Duong province and the Southeast region. The seminar is part of a series of scientific events taking place at the university for 2 days (November 15 and 16).

Here, delegates shared and discussed the development of national key agricultural product chains; smart agriculture in the Southeast region. Especially solutions for developing high-tech agriculture, ecological agriculture, and circular economy application in agriculture suitable for the development of Binh Duong province; activities of Thu Dau Mot University in researching, transferring and developing high-tech agriculture, supporting farms, businesses, and agricultural production cooperatives.

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Pham Van Bong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Duong province, said that in order to adapt well to climate change, market fluctuations and changes in consumption trends, the goal of the agricultural sector is to create more value from using fewer inputs, less labor and high value by taking advantage of achievements in science and technology, aiming for sustainable development from the technical perspective to production organization.

To achieve this goal, Binh Duong province has issued projects and plans with the goal of developing ecological agriculture and circular economy in agriculture. Along with that are many projects and plans for developing organic agriculture, restructuring the agricultural sector, developing agricultural tourism, strengthening chain linkages, OCOP products associated with building new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, and sustainable model new rural areas.

Speaking on the sidelines of the discussion, Dr. Doan Ngoc Xuan, Principal of Thu Dau Mot University, said that the school has determined that every year there will be an event about science week for scientists and researchers to share and comment. According to the Principal of Thu Dau Mot University, this is to develop new training majors, as well as improve the quality of existing training majors so that students have knowledge suitable to the market's needs.

"Thu Dau Mot University currently has 55 training majors, with over 22,000 students, many of which are very successful. However, the problems that arise in life and especially with Thu Dau Mot University - the role of a key university of Binh Duong province, located in the key economic region of the South, new professions will anticipate the development of market demand, these professions need to have scientific arguments to be included in the construction of curriculum programs and knowledge to meet the development needs" - Mr. Xuan shared.

Dr. Doan Ngoc Xuan added that the school has recently established the Institute of Pharmacy and Health Food, which is a training center to meet the development needs, as well as to aim for a happy urban area, proactively taking care of the health of Binh Duong province, as well as the Southeast region.

Previously, on November 15, Thu Dau Mot University signed a cooperation program for the period 2024 - 2030 with the Provincial Farmers' Association. With its strengths in scientific research and technology transfer, Thu Dau Mot University cooperates with the Provincial Farmers' Association to carry out research projects on cultivation techniques to increase productivity and quality of agricultural products, preserve and process agricultural products after harvest to reduce losses, improve quality and value and increase competitiveness for Binh Duong agricultural products in domestic and foreign markets.
