On the afternoon of March 31, the group stage of the 2025 National Women's Football Cup ended in drama and emotion, when the final matches found the outstanding names to enter the quarterfinals.
In Group A, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club and Thai Nguyen T&T are the two teams that quickly won tickets to the next round and entered the final match with a comfortable mindset.
HCMC Women's Team decided to "keep" bright stars like Chuong Thi Kieu, Phan Thi Trang or captain Huynh Nhu on the bench. On the other side of the front line, Coach Van Thi Thanh also let Bich Thuy rest, saving her energy for the road ahead.
With the advantage of the secondary index, the representative of Ho Chi Minh City only needed a draw to take the top spot, and they played according to that calculation. Without rushing, the team from the city named after Uncle Ho deployed a solid game, controlling the tempo throughout the first half. Opportunities came to both sides, but the strikers clumsily missed them regretfully. The first half ended with a score of 0-0 in the cautiousness of both teams.
In the second half, Thai Nguyen T&T tried to push up their formation, put pressure and waited for mistakes from their opponents. However, the defense of the HCMC Women's Club remained as strong as a wall, successfully defending the goalless draw. This result brought HCMC and Thai Nguyen T&T into the semi-finals with the first and second positions in Group A.
In Group B, emotions really exploded when Hanoi FC faced Than KSVN in a life-or-death match.
Faced with the pressure of having to win to keep their hopes of advancing alive, the Capital representative rushed to attack right from the opening whistle. Hanoi's determination was soon rewarded. In the 10th minute, Dang Thi Duyen unleashed a tricky shot to open the score 1-0, causing an explosion of emotions in the stands.
But that joy did not last long, Than KSVN quickly responded, and Nguyen Thi Van managed to equalize 1-1 in the first half. In the second half, Hanoi continued to put pressure but the coordination lacked the necessary sharpness. After 90 minutes, the score was tied 1-1, causing Hanoi's quarter-final dream to go up in smoke.
Thus, Phong Phu Ha Nam and Than KSVN confidently entered the semi-finals with the first and second places in group B.
The dramatic events of the afternoon of March 31 have shaped the next stage of the tournament, promising top-notch matches in the near future. The semi-finals will see the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club - Than KSVN (3:30 p.m.), and Phong Phu Ha Nam - Thai Nguyen T&T (6 p.m.) on April 3.
