On August 15, Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu announced that the country is ready to strengthen international cooperation on arms control.
Speaking at the 11th Moscow International Security Conference, Minister Li Shangfu said China is ready to conduct joint exercises and drills with all countries towards larger-scale exercises, and is ready to strengthen international cooperation on arms control and nuclear non-proliferation.
In addition, Mr. Li Shangfu affirmed that China is willing to step up security work within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and enhance defense cooperation with Iran and Belarus.
Iran became a full member of the SCO last July, while Belarus has signed and ratified a memorandum of understanding to accelerate the process of joining the organization.
Mr. Ly Thuong Phuc is expected to visit Belarus after attending the 11th Moscow International Security Conference.
According to TASS news agency, the 11th Moscow International Security Conference opened on August 15 at the Patriot conference and exhibition center, with the participation of representatives of defense ministries, military experts and diplomats of various countries, as well as international organizations.
The conference will focus on discussing common security threats to global and regional stability, as well as security aspects in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Europe.
