On January 9, at Khanh Hong Commune People's Committee, the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Khanh and Yen Mo districts organized a workshop on the model of planting some new apple varieties with high yield and good quality to serve the development of commercial fruit tree production in Ninh Binh.
Over the past 2 years (2022-2023), the project implementation team has implemented on a scale of 20 hectares, including VC01 apple varieties (16 hectares) and VC04 (4 hectares), of which in Yen Khanh district (Khanh Hong commune, Khanh Thanh) is 16 hectares and Yen Mo (Yen Dong commune, Yen Phong) is 3 hectares.
The project has built a model for producing new apple varieties using the technical process of grafting rootstocks and producing seedlings in 5 locations, thereby researching and determining the planting density of new apple varieties suitable for the land.
The project aims to determine the best fertilizer formula (ratio of inorganic and organic fertilizers) for apple trees at age 2, so that the apple trees can produce the highest yield and efficiency. At the same time, the research aims to determine a new product to prevent fruit flies from harming apples...
Monitoring and evaluating apple models shows that new apple varieties (VC01, VC04) are suitable for planting at model sites, the trees grow well, branch strongly, and retain the characteristics of the variety such as leaf shape, fruit shape, flowering time, and fruit set.
VC04 apple variety and yellow peach apple variety (control) are early ripening apple varieties, flowering time is from August 5 to 25, fruit harvest time is from November 10 to 25 to January of the following year. VC01 apple variety is late ripening apple variety, flowering time is from September 10 to 20 and fruit harvest time is from December 5 to 10 to February of the following year.
In general, VC01 and VC04 apple varieties are large, crispy, sweet and cool, suitable for consumer tastes. At age 2, VC01 apple variety yields from 16-18.5 tons/ha: VC04 apple variety yields from 15.7-17.6 tons/ha.
With a selling price of 25,000 VND/kg, after deducting costs, the VC01 apple variety is expected to generate a profit of 292-344 million VND/ha; the VC04 apple variety will generate a profit of 276-323 million VND/ha.
At the workshop, the project received many constructive comments from scientists, representatives of the Department of Science and Technology, representatives of Yen Khanh district leaders and households participating in the model.
VC01 and VC04 are apple varieties created by the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants and transferred by the author himself.
According to the assessment, the project team has completed the technical process of producing seedlings by grafting method and the cultivation process for new apple varieties suitable for fruit tree production; at the same time, successfully built a model of producing new commercial apple varieties with a yield of over 7 tons/ha (age 1) and over 12 tons/ha (age 2) in Ninh Binh.
