Mr. Tran Quang Lam was appointed Director of the Department of Transport and Public Works of Ho Chi Minh City.

On the afternoon of February 20, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee handed over the decision to the leaders of the Departments whose resolutions had just been approved by the City People's Council to establish Departments subject to apparatus rearrangement at the 21st session (special session) held on the same day.

Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee decided to establish the Department of Traffic and Public Works on the basis of reorganizing the Department of Transport; receiving the Standing Office of the Traffic Safety Committee and a number of functions and tasks of state management of infrastructure from the Department of Construction.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also signed a decision to appoint Mr. Tran Quang Lam, Director of the Department of Transport, as Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Public Works.

Mr. Tran Quang Lam, born in 1973, hometown Quang Thuan ward, Ba Don town, Quang Binh province. Mr. Lam held the position of Deputy Director of the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City in August 2014. On January 9, 2019, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City assigned Mr. Lam to be in charge of the Department of Transport. On April 12, 2019, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City appointed Mr. Tran Quang Lam to hold the position of Director of the Department of Transport until now.

On the same day, at the 21st session (special session) of the 10th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, term 2021-2026, the draft resolution to establish 7 specialized departments under the City People's Committee was voted to pass.

Together with the Department of Transport and Public Works, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has issued decisions to establish the Department of Finance, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Construction, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, and Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

Thus, the new apparatus of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee consists of 16 agencies with 7 newly established Departments and 8 units with streamlined focal points, internal organization or receiving additional functions and tasks. The City Food Safety Department remains the same according to Resolution 98/2023 of the National Assembly.
