On March 23, Tra Cu District Police (Tra Vinh Province) said that the gas poisoning incident at Ngai Xuyen A Primary School (Ngai Xuyen Commune, Tra Cu District) that caused 21 students to be hospitalized was due to inhaling gas emitted from an exploding balloon.

Previously, at around 6:30 a.m. on March 20, 8 students from Ngai Xuyen A Primary School went to the store of Ms. Ha Thi Cam L. (residing in Xoai Thum Hamlet, Ngai Xuyen Commune) to buy 11 explosive balloons and bring them into the classroom. After that, the students used their hands to cause the balloons to explode.
At around 7am that same day, the teacher entered the classroom and discovered 21 students showing signs of vomiting and headaches, so he took them to the emergency room. By March 21, the students were in stable health and returned to school.
Upon receiving the information, Tra Cu District Police, Ngai Xuyen Commune Police coordinated with Tra Cu District Medical Center to conduct an inspection, verify and determine the cause of the poisoning was due to the children inhaling the gas inside the exploded balloon.
