Mr. Kreneyss recalled the time in the 60s and 70s of the last century when he was in his early 20s and was involved in the anti-war movement, supporting the just struggle of the Vietnamese people in Argentina, Chile, Brazil and many other South American countries. He recalled: “I belong to the generation that lived and witnessed the years when the US imperialists invaded Vietnam. We always followed every piece of information about the war on the other side of the hemisphere. The Vietnamese people at that time were famous for their resounding victory over the French colonialists. I remember that at that time, we, the young people of the Argentine Communist Party, participated in the solidarity movement with the Vietnamese people. This movement was very strong, with the participation of many progressive forces at that time, people who opposed the imperialist invasion of Latin American, Asian and African countries.”
General Secretary of the Argentine Communist Party Kreneyss added that at that time, Argentina donated tons of quinine to treat malaria and sent it to Vietnam to send to the battlefield. To show their gratitude, at international congresses and conferences, Argentine Communists were given unforgettable souvenirs by their Vietnamese friends: rings made from pieces of downed American planes. “Those souvenirs always remind us to follow the heroic fighting example of the Vietnamese people, ready to sacrifice our lives for the independence of the country, for the happiness of the people. And the example and inspiration of the Vietnamese people will always be with us to this day,” he said.
Recalling the moment of receiving good news from the Vietnam battlefield, Mr. Kreneyss said that at that time, in Argentina, there was a Solidarity Movement with Vietnam and this organization regularly reported on the war situation. On April 30, 1975, the media announced Vietnam's historic victory. This was great good news for all communist soldiers, inspiring the spirit of national liberation in many African countries at that time. The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Argentina affirmed that the victory on April 30, the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of Vietnam, once again showed that the Communist Party played an important role in leading the Vietnamese people from one victory to another.
After the victory of April 30, in the face of the devastation left by the consequences of war, the Vietnamese people once again undertook the task of rebuilding and rebuilding the country. The Doi Moi process was carried out with open economic policies, private economic development and expanded international cooperation. After nearly 40 years, Vietnam today has become a prosperous society with a developed economy. Vietnam has deeply integrated into many regional and international organizations. The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Argentina affirmed: “We have always closely followed the development of Vietnam. 50 years have passed, this is an important moment to look back at Vietnam's admirable achievements”.
