Ho Chi Minh City will invest heavily in 8 transport infrastructure projects to help increase regional connectivity with Long An, such as extending Vo Van Kiet Street, opening new Tay Bac Street, Ring Road 4, expanding National Highway 1, 50B...
The West and Northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, adjacent to Long An province, are increasingly overloaded due to inadequate investment in transport infrastructure. In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will invest heavily in a series of strategic transport projects to help increase regional connectivity with this locality.
First is the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4 project, the section across the Saigon River - Thay Cai Canal (including the Saigon River overpass): According to the planning, the entire Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4 route is more than 200km long, passing through 5 provinces and cities including Ba Ria - Vung Tau (18.7km), Dong Nai (45.6km), Binh Duong (47.45km), Ho Chi Minh City (17.3km) and Long An (78.3km), with a preliminary total investment of more than 127,000 billion VND in phase 1.
Of which, the section through Ho Chi Minh City is 17.3km long, with a scale of 4 complete expressway lanes (with an emergency lane for the entire route). The city will clear the land once according to the 74.5m plan, with an estimated investment of over 14,000 billion VND, including over 7,251 billion VND from the city budget and over 6,800 billion VND raised by investors.
The expansion of National Highway 1: the section from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to the Long An border has just been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for investment in the form of BOT (build - operate - transfer).
This section is nearly 10km long, expanded to 60m, with a scale of 10-12 lanes with a total investment of more than 16,285 billion VND. On the route, the intersection with Kinh Duong Vuong Street will have a 4-lane overpass on National Highway 1. An Lac roundabout to Tran Dai Nghia Street will be expanded.
Binh Thuan Interchange will have an additional 4-lane overpass on National Highway 1 and a 4-lane underpass on Nguyen Van Linh Street. Construction is expected to start in early 2026 and be completed in 2028.
Construction of National Highway 50B: The planning was approved by the Prime Minister, National Highway 50B is nearly 55km long (the section through Long An is more than 35km, Tien Giang is more than 14km and Ho Chi Minh City is 5.8km). This is a new construction project, with a total estimated investment of nearly 20,000 billion VND.
The section through Ho Chi Minh City alone is about 5.8km long, starting from Pham Hung Street through Binh Chanh and Nha Be districts. The route has a scale of 6 lanes, 40m wide, with a preliminary investment of nearly 5,300 billion VND.
When completed, this section of the entire National Highway 50B will create a traffic connection axis with Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4... contributing to strengthening connections to international gateways by sea (Hiep Phuoc port, Thi Vai - Cai Mep deep-water port, Long An port) and Long Thanh international airport.
New Northwest Road
Planning to connect from Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 through Vinh Loc Industrial Park to Long An Provincial Road 823D.
The section through Ho Chi Minh City is about 9.9km long, with a scale of 6-8 lanes, with a total investment of about 5,200 billion VND, of which the site clearance cost is up to 3,900 billion VND. Ho Chi Minh City plans to implement it under the form of public-private partnership (PPP) before 2030.
When completed, this will be an important radial axis connecting Ring Road 2, Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, contributing to reducing traffic congestion and promoting industrial development.
Vo Van Kiet Street extended to Long An
Vo Van Kiet Street is 13km long, 60m wide (6-10 lanes) located on the East-West Highway axis of Ho Chi Minh City. The road opened to traffic in 2009 and is considered a vital route, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with key economic regions in the South.
According to the plan, this route will be extended to Hai Son - Tan Do industrial park (Duc Hoa district, Long An), keeping the same scale of 60m.
The section through Ho Chi Minh City is about 12.5km long, running to the intersection with Ring Road 3, with a total investment of nearly VND5,800 billion, of which site clearance costs are about VND3,145 billion.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Public Works said it is preparing a pre-feasibility study report to submit to the competent authority for investment policy decision, expected to be implemented before 2030.
Expanding Nguyen Van Bua Street: from Giong intersection to Provincial Road 9 bridge, with a total investment of more than 2,421 billion VND, using Ho Chi Minh City budget capital.
According to the plan, Nguyen Van Bua Street will be widened to 32-40m, and a new Big Bridge and Provincial Road 9 Bridge will be built, each 58m long and 17.5m wide. At the same time, the existing Provincial Road 9 Bridge will be widened. The project is expected to be implemented in the period 2025-2028.
In addition to the 6 regional connectivity projects with Long An above, Ho Chi Minh City is also expanding National Highway 50 with a budget of 1,500 billion VND, Ring Road 3. In the near future, the city will expand Le Van Luong Street and Long Hau Street connecting Nha Be District and Can Guoc District.
The 688 billion VND project in Ho Chi Minh City opens the first branch of the bridge after 8 years of construction.
Ho Chi Minh City established an appraisal council for 4 BOT projects worth more than 58,000 billion VND to expand gateways.
