According to the 10th grade admission quota announced by the Department of Education and Training (GD-DT) of Ho Chi Minh City, the 10th grade admission quota of 115 public high schools with 70,070 seats, reached 79% compared to the expected number of students graduating from junior high school this year (88,120 students).
According to Chief of Office of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training Ho Tan Minh, the Department will ask the City People's Committee to adjust the quota on the project of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Thi Dinh High School for Gifted Sports and assign the quota to a new high school in Binh Tan district.
If approved, the rate of students entering public grade 10 will reach over 80%, meaning an increase of more than 1,100 places compared to the present.
Currently, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted is recruiting 455 10th grade students. Meanwhile, Nguyen Thi Dinh High School for the Gifted in Sports is recruiting 450.
The quota for grade 10 this year is calculated by the Department of Education and Training to suit each region, in order to reduce pressure on students. Accordingly, schools in suburban areas, with small numbers that need to control classes according to new rural standards, will be assigned quotas according to demand; while schools in densely populated areas will be assigned higher quotas.
The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 will take place on June 6-7. Candidates will take three exams: Math, Literature (120 minutes), and Foreign Language (90 minutes). If candidates register for specialized schools, they will take an additional exam on specialized subjects (150 minutes).
