Ho Chi Minh City and the World Economic Forum (WEF) have cooperated to establish the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), the second center in Southeast Asia.
The agreement was signed by Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai with the WEF within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland) on January 16. This is the second center to be established in Southeast Asia, after C4IR Malaysia, which was established in 2023.
C4IR HCMC is located in the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park, expected to be operational from June 2024. The center is considered one of the important economic development projects of Ho Chi Minh City, playing the role of a driving force for the city's development in the coming time.
This will be a place to focus on research cooperation, policy proposals, technology application and transfer, and resource mobilization for areas of interest to the city and Vietnam such as green growth, smart cities, and artificial intelligence.

According to Mr. Phan Van Mai, with this center, the city can participate in WEF's global initiatives, thereby establishing a comprehensive ecosystem to promote new growth drivers, attract investment, and improve competitiveness.
"The center will become a reliable and effective address to promote cooperation between experts, researchers, and the Vietnamese and international business community," said Mr. Mai.
Mr. Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director of WEF, said the establishment of C4IR is an important milestone in the partnership between WEF and Vietnam. Through this, the Forum can support Vietnam in innovation, creativity and growth.
A WEF initiative, C4IR is a multi-stakeholder collaboration platform that connects the public and private sectors to maximize the benefits of technology to society while minimizing risks, improving and accelerating the deployment of emerging technologies.
The first C4IR was established in San Francisco in 2017, followed shortly by C4IRs in Japan and India. To date, the network of C4IRs includes: Austin (Center for Trusted Technology Development), Azerbaijan, Brazil, Colombia, Detroit (US Advanced Manufacturing Center), Germany (Global Government Technology Center), Israel, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Norway (Center for Ocean Data Development), Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Africa, Telangana, Türkiye and the UAE.
