In the first nine months of the year, South Korea, mainland China, Taiwan and the US were the markets sending the most international visitors to Vietnam.

According to data released by the General Statistics Office this morning, after 9 months, Vietnam welcomed 8.9 million visitors, exceeding the target of 8 million for the whole year and 4.7 times higher than the same period last year, equal to 69% compared to the same period in 2019, before the Covid-19 outbreak. Most visitors entered by air with more than 7.7 million. Roads came in second with more than 1 million, and finally by sea.

South Korea remains the market sending the most visitors to Vietnam with 2.58 million arrivals. Mainland China ranks second with more than 1.12 million arrivals and Taiwan is in the top 3 with more than 557,000 arrivals. The top markets with the most visitors to Vietnam in the 3 quarters of this year include the US (more than 548,000 arrivals), Japan (more than 414,000), Thailand (more than 351,000), Malaysia (more than 333,000), Cambodia (more than 2,839,000), Australia (more than 283,000).

The first 9 months of the year recorded growth from more than 30 international markets in Vietnam. The number of visitors from these markets increased from 2 to 14 times compared to the same period in 2022. Mainland China is the market with the highest growth rate with the number of visitors reaching more than 1.12 million, 14 times higher than the same period last year, although it was only 28% compared to the same period before the pandemic.

In 2022, China still did not open its borders to prevent the epidemic, and only started welcoming visitors and allowing people to travel internationally at the beginning of this year, while other countries opened early. That is the main reason why China has the highest growth rate compared to the remaining markets.

Other markets with the highest growth rates in Vietnam include Taiwan , South Korea , Russia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Japan , and Malaysia, with an increase of at least 4 times compared to the same period last year.

The British newspaper Telegraph commented that Vietnam's tourism is on the way to an "impressive" recovery. New visa regulations and the development of high-end tourism have helped visitors gradually return to near pre-pandemic levels.

Parveen Jackson, product director at luxury travel company Luxtripper in the UK, said that post-pandemic, Vietnam has focused on developing itself as a high-end destination. This means promoting the formation of new luxury hotels, improving services and upgrading infrastructure. "Although luxury travel in Vietnam is growing, the price for a package tour remains reasonable without compromising on service or quality," Jackson said.

Telegraph suggests that tourists should plan their trip to Vietnam carefully, paying attention to the weather and peak season in each locality to fully enjoy their vacation.
