The Russian leader stressed that the only power is the people, which is stipulated in the Constitution of the Russian Federation. President Vladimir Putin affirmed that it is the people who decide the fate of the country and called for social unity to overcome difficulties and respond to the complex challenges of the international and domestic situation.
“I am sure that you understand what a difficult period our country is going through, what difficult challenges we face in almost all areas. And in order to continue to overcome them with dignity and success, we need to continue to be united and confident,” the Russian President said.
Vladimir Putin called the election a step towards the future. Russians will not only vote for one candidate or another, but will also declare their will and aspirations.
“You must not only vote, but also firmly declare your will and aspirations, your personal participation in the further development of Russia, because elections are a step towards the future,” the Russian leader said, stressing that it is important not to deviate from the established path and achieve the ambitious goals set.
The Russian President also stressed that participating in elections is a manifestation of patriotic feelings. He noted that residents of the new regions of Russia who voted in referendums are aware of the importance of this process. They also have to make their choice.
“I tell you frankly that participating in elections today is a manifestation of patriotism,” Vladimir Putin said.
Russian soldiers on the front lines also voted. The Russian president said that by participating in the election, they were setting an example for the people of the country.
The Russian presidential election is scheduled to take place from March 15 to 17. This is the first time in Russia's history that presidential elections will last three days. Direct voting will take place in 29 regions of the Russian Federation.
