According to Wafa - the official Palestinian news agency, President Abbas will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to exchange views on the latest developments related to Palestine, the Middle East region, as well as international issues of mutual concern.
In addition, during the visit, which lasts until June 16, the Palestinian leader is also expected to meet with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang.
Last week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin asserted that Mr. Abbas is “an old and good friend of the Chinese people.”
According to Mr. Wang Wenbin, President Abbas is the first Arab head of state to be received by Beijing this year, thereby "fully demonstrating the high-level good relations between China and Palestine, which have a tradition of friendship".
In April this year, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang held phone calls with his Israeli and Palestinian counterparts, affirming Beijing's willingness to support peace talks between the two sides.
Mr. Qin Gang also emphasized: “The Palestine issue is the core of the Middle East issue. It affects peace and stability in the region as well as international fairness and justice.”
