“We have not yet achieved full operational control over Crimea and the surrounding territorial waters, but we will achieve this goal. It is only a question of time,” Zelensky said at a meeting at the Crimea Platform, a diplomatic forum since 2021.

Russian forces continue to bombard the eastern Ukrainian city of Avdiivka, according to Ukrainian officials. The officials believe the casualties have forced Russia to switch to an airstrike strategy instead of a ground offensive.

Oleh Synehub, governor of the Kharkiv region, said two civilians were killed in shelling of a village near Kupiansk. Some reports said Russian forces had recently attacked the area north of Kupiansk.

Russia said it had carried out successful artillery and air strikes around Bakhmut, a northeastern Ukrainian city that Russian forces captured in May after months of fighting. Reuters said it could not verify reports of fighting from either side.

Australia said it would send 3D metal printers and anti-drone systems to Ukraine as part of a $20 million (US$12.8 million) military aid package, bringing the country’s total aid to Ukraine to $910 million (US$582 million) since Russia launched its offensive. Reports suggest the Australian prime minister will discuss the conflict in Ukraine with Joe Biden when he visits the US.

Moldova blocked 20 Russian media sites on Tuesday, saying they were being used in information warfare against the country. A ruling by Moldova’s Security and Intelligence Service listed 22 Russian news sites to be blocked. The Russian foreign ministry was quoted as saying the decision was a “hostile step” aimed at depriving Moldovans of access to alternative news sources. Moldova has restricted the broadcasting rights of Russian news channels as well as analytical and military content from June 2022 after Russia launched its campaign in Ukraine.

Joe Biden's request for aid to Ukraine continues to be delayed as Republicans in the US House of Representatives continue to struggle to elect a new House speaker.

Ukraine has signed a defense cooperation agreement with German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall AG covering the maintenance and repair of Western weapons sent to support Kyiv in Russia's campaign in Ukraine.

Ukraine expects Germany to provide a 1.4 billion euro aid package to strengthen its air defenses and help it survive a second winter in its war with Russia, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

The EU is on track to end its dependence on Russian fossil fuels this decade, according to the European Commission.

Two people were killed and several others injured in Russian shelling of Kherson.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran. Russia and Iran are strengthening bilateral relations in a position of “mutual trust”.
