According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam and Indonesia established relations in 1955 and established a Strategic Partnership in 2013.
Indonesia is currently Vietnam's second largest trading partner in ASEAN, and Vietnam is Indonesia's fourth largest trading partner in ASEAN. In 2024, the two countries' trade turnover will reach 16.7 billion USD.
Indonesia currently has 123 valid investment projects with a total registered capital of 682 million USD. Vietnamese enterprises have tended to increase investment in Indonesia recently such as: Vinfast; Dien May Xanh; Saigon Cafe...
Indonesia is one of the countries that had the earliest security and defense relations with us.
Regarding maritime cooperation, in December 2022, the two sides signed the EEZ Delimitation Agreement after 12 years of negotiations, a historic event in bilateral relations, helping to open up many opportunities to enhance maritime cooperation, sending a strong message about the value of international law and UNCLOS 1982, contributing to strengthening ASEAN solidarity on the East Sea issue. The two sides are negotiating the final round of the Implementation Agreement applicable to the area of overlapping jurisdiction in Jakarta in early March 2025.
The two countries have signed a number of MOUs on agriculture, fisheries, marine issues and energy. The two countries have direct flights connecting Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City with Jakarta/Bali operated by Vietjet Air and Vietnam Airlines. In 2024, we will welcome 184,000 Indonesian tourists.
The Vietnam - Singapore Strategic Partnership is developing well.
Singapore is Vietnam's 4th largest trading partner in ASEAN (after Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia); Vietnam's 14th trading partner in the world. Vietnam is Singapore's 4th trading partner in ASEAN and its 11th in the world. In 2024, total two-way trade turnover will reach 10.3 billion USD, an increase of 14.7% compared to 2023.
Singapore is currently the largest ASEAN investor in Vietnam, ranking 2nd out of 147 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with 3,915 valid projects with a total registered capital of more than 83 billion USD (mainly in processing and manufacturing industries, real estate business, and electricity and gas production and distribution). Singaporean investors are currently investing in 18/21 industries and sectors and are present in 54/63 provinces and cities of Vietnam.
Vietnam officially joined ASEAN on July 28, 1995. From initial confusion and caution, Vietnam has participated extensively in all areas of cooperation under the motto of "proactive, active and responsible"; and has made important contributions to the growth and development of ASEAN. This is not only an important step in integrating with the region and the world, but is also closely linked to the process of renewing Vietnam's foreign policy thinking as well as the history of developing friendly cooperative relations with neighboring countries in the region, especially ASEAN member countries, which has always been a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy.
