The Ministry of Transport has just approved the Vinh International Airport Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
Expansion of existing passenger terminal
According to the plan, Vinh International Airport in Nghe An province is an airport for joint civil and military use.
In the period 2021-2030, Vinh airport will be a level 4E airport (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO), with a capacity of about 8 million passengers/year and 25,000 tons of cargo/year.

The airport operates aircraft code C such as A320/A321 and equivalent, aircraft code E such as B747/B777/B787/A350 and equivalent. Landing approach procedure according to CAT II standard at end 17 of runway 1.
In this phase, the existing T1 passenger terminal will be expanded to a capacity of about 5 million passengers/year. In addition, a new T2 passenger terminal will be planned in the area between the two runways with a capacity of about 3 million passengers/year.
For the cargo terminal, continue to maintain the existing cargo terminal; plan a cargo terminal and parking lot in the area north of passenger terminal T1, with a capacity of about 25,000 tons/year.
Regarding the runway system, the plan is to extend the existing runway towards the end of 17 to a size of 3,000 m x 45 m, as well as the material curb size according to regulations.
Expand the existing aircraft parking lot to accommodate about 15 parking positions for code C aircraft. Plan the aircraft parking lot in the T2 passenger terminal area to accommodate about 10 aircraft parking positions.
By 2050, the airport will be able to handle 14 million passengers per year.
Vision to 2050, Vinh international airport has a capacity of about 14 million passengers/year and 35,000 tons of cargo/year. The airport operates code C aircraft such as A320/A321 and equivalent, code E aircraft such as B747/B777/B787/A350 and equivalent.
Expanding passenger terminal T2 to a capacity of about 9 million passengers/year, bringing the total capacity of the entire Port to about 14 million passengers/year, as well as reserving land for development when needed.
Expanding the cargo terminal and parking lot to meet the capacity of about 35,000 tons/year, reserving land for development when needed.
Landing approach at the port according to CAT II standards at end 17 of runway 1, end 02 and end 20 of runway 2.
This phase will plan runway number 2 with dimensions of 3,000 m x 45 m, direction 02-20 to the East of the existing runway, material curb size according to regulations.
At the same time, plan parallel taxiway No. 3 about 180 m west of the center of runway No. 2; plan a system of connecting taxiways and synchronous quick exit taxiways to connect the parallel taxiway with the runway and apron; material curb size according to regulations.
Expand the aircraft parking area of passenger terminal T2 to accommodate about 29 aircraft parking positions; reserve for expansion when needed.
For works to ensure flight operations, a new air traffic control tower will be planned at the northern location of passenger terminal T1, with an area of about 2 hectares.
In the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the land use demand of Vinh International Airport is about 543.53 hectares, including land area managed by civil aviation, land area managed by the military and land area for common use. The proposed additional land area is about 96.5 hectares.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is assigned to study and receive the Appraisal Report of the Department of Planning and Investment to complete the Planning dossier. At the same time, preside over and coordinate with the People's Committee of Nghe An province and relevant agencies to organize the announcement, management and implementation of the planning according to regulations.
Nghe An Provincial People's Committee is responsible for reviewing and updating the above planning contents into local planning and related planning; arranging and protecting land funds in accordance with approved planning, having plans for planning and land use plans to ensure that land funds are ready to meet the needs of expansion development according to the planning.
