On the evening of August 12, the Van Lang University auditorium was packed with student audiences. They laughed and cried, harmonizing with the emotions of the actors in the musical "Red Smile" directed by Pham Huynh Huu Tai.
"Red Smile" was inspired by the famous short story by writer Vo Thi Hao about the lives of female soldiers guarding military supplies warehouses on the Truong Son road.
The message of the program is to pay tribute to the wounded and fallen soldiers, especially the female heroes - those who devoted their youth, accepted physical and mental pain to protect the Fatherland. Many young people wiped away tears when witnessing the reportage images that the crew made about real people, real events, those are former soldiers, those who returned from the resistance war against America to save the country, they paid a very high price to contribute to protecting national sovereignty, gaining independence and freedom.
Master Nguyen Huu Binh (Faculty of Public Relations and Communications) said: "This is a musical program performed by students themselves to bring viewers to reflect on the value of peace, and at the same time spread love for the homeland to the younger generation. Remind today's generation to live, study, and work worthy of what they have inherited from the sacrifices of their fathers and grandfathers."
In addition to the message of national pride, the musical "Red Smile" also explores the topic of Hysteria - a psychological illness caused by war. Through the story of a group of female soldiers at the military supply depot, viewers gain a deeper understanding of the silent sacrifices and mental pain that female soldiers had to endure in Truong Son. Thereby highlighting the great contributions of women to the independence of the Fatherland.
Director Pham Huynh Huu Tai shared: "The musical "Red Smile" has brought me an emotional journey, a trip through laughter, madness, and indescribable heartache. "Red Smile" has touched the hearts of the audience and is loved by everyone, thanks to the dedication, responsibility and talent of all the actors and the entire crew."
The musical "Red Smile" has the participation of actors: Yen Phuong Dung (as Thao), Ngoc Nhu (as Tham), Phuong Trinh (as Dai), Thao Uyen (as Trang), Huynh Thy (as Nghia), Su Hong Trong (as Hien), Huynh Son (as An), Anh Huy (as Thanh).
The play focused on the tragedy of Thao and her comrades in the laughing forest. There were tears of anticipation as they waited for letters from the front.
Happiness was not for those who stayed behind because behind the smile on the day the country was independent, there was a bitter smile for the unspeakable pain. Thao went crazy in the pain of losing her comrades, losing her youth... All of these depicted the image of the brutal war of our country.
The musical "Red Smile" is like a journey that takes young audiences back to the years of resilient fighting, where each story and each melody can feel the extraordinary strength of Vietnamese women. Not only is it a tribute, but the program is also a flame that lights up national pride in the souls of Vietnamese people.
