Organizing tourism resource surveys aims to form a tourism resource database system, serving the management, planning, development of tourism products and tourist areas and destinations nationwide.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just issued Decision No. 1177/QD-BVHTTDL on the Master Plan for organizing a national tourism resource survey. The survey will begin in 2024 and is expected to last for 5 years. The organization, survey, assessment and classification of tourism resources will take place in all 63 provinces and centrally run cities.
Accordingly, the subject of the investigation is natural tourism resources, including: natural landscapes, geological factors, geomorphology, climate, hydrology, ecosystems and other natural factors that can be used for tourism purposes.
Cultural tourism resources are also the subject of planned investigation, including: historical-cultural relics, revolutionary relics, archeology, architecture; traditional cultural values, festivals, folk arts and other cultural values; creative human works that can be used for tourism purposes.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism defines the tasks of organizing tourism resource investigation as developing plans and investigation methods; developing software and guidance documents for tourism resource investigation; organizing training on investigation work; organizing investigation implementation; organizing synthesis, evaluation and classification of tourism resources; organizing publication and archiving of investigation results.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is responsible for developing a master plan for organizing the investigation of tourism resources; presiding over and coordinating with the provincial People's Committees to implement plans and projects for investigating tourism resources; coordinating with local ministries and branches in implementing tasks related to investigating tourism resources.
During the implementation of the Plan, when new types of resources are discovered or when new factors are identified in the process of exploitation and value promotion, associated with exploited resources, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will synthesize proposals from localities and submit them to the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to conduct additional investigations or re-evaluate tourism resources.
In addition, the Department will be the direct unit to develop training documents, investigation instructions; software to enter information and synthesize results, data on tourism resources associated with the construction of a tourism resource database; tools to support information collection and investigation work (electronic forms on mobile devices (CAPI), online electronic forms (webform), synthesis forms); coordinate with localities to develop plans to select a team of investigators and supervisors; organize training, instruct on investigation techniques, deploy surveys, collect information, enter information into the system; review annual budgets for tasks related to implementing tourism resource investigation work, etc.
The Department of Planning and Finance is responsible for synthesizing and reporting to competent authorities on annual budgets for tasks related to implementing tourism resource investigation within the scope, functions and tasks of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
