Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway expected to start construction in December 2025 - Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television

On the afternoon of April 11, the People's Committee of Lao Cai province held a conference to announce the results of the implementation after a period of actively implementing the investment project to build the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line, the section passing through Lao Cai province.

The investment project to build the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line was approved by the National Assembly in the Resolution dated February 19, 2025.

The project is expected to start construction in December 2025 as directed by the Prime Minister on April 5.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hai, Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong high-speed railway has strategic significance in forming a railway transport network in the North, running along the East - West corridor, connecting the Northwest region with the delta region and Hai Phong seaport - one of the largest maritime centers in Vietnam.

At the same time, the railway will connect rail transport with China, directly to the Southwest region (China) - an area with over 500 million people.

The project is expected to create new development space for localities along the route, promote urbanization, trade, tourism, and services; at the same time reduce logistics costs, reduce pressure on road traffic, and contribute to sustainable and green development.

Mr. Hai added that with the spirit of “implementing and solving at the same time”, Lao Cai province has proactively implemented tasks within its territory and achieved many positive results. In the coming time, the province will continue to closely coordinate with the Railway Project Management Board, striving to complete the project on schedule according to the Central Government’s direction.

To date, Lao Cai has marked project boundaries in the field at more than 1,500 points, and organized measurements, excerpts and corrections of cadastral maps.

According to preliminary statistics, the project will affect about 950 households and 91 production facilities located in industrial parks and clusters in the province. To ensure stable life and production for the people, Lao Cai province plans to implement 20 resettlement projects, including new residential areas and production facilities, with a total investment of about 1,100 billion VND.

According to information from the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, the main line of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project is nearly 391 km long, stretching from Lao Cai to Lach Huyen port, including a 5.1 km rail connection section. The project also includes 3 branch lines with a total length of nearly 28 km.

Total investment cost is up to more than 203,000 billion VND, of which site clearance and resettlement support costs account for nearly 36,000 billion VND.
