Switzerland pledges to support Vietnam in overcoming natural disaster consequences

On the morning of September 14, in Hanoi, the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) met with the Swiss Embassy in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention Pham Duc Luan shared with the Swiss side about the situation of storm No. 3, the storm circulation and floods affecting the provinces and cities in the Northern region, causing serious damage to people and infrastructure. Mr. Thomas Gass, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Vietnam, expressed condolences for the loss of people and infrastructure that Vietnam is suffering, and pledged to support Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of this natural disaster. Specifically, Switzerland sent a delegation of about 8 experienced experts in the fields of clean water, sanitation, safe houses, etc. to Yen Bai next week to conduct surveys and in-depth research on the needs of the province, on the basis of proposing appropriate reconstruction plans.
Along with that, Switzerland also sent a relief shipment to Vietnam weighing 25,789 kg including equipment, safe home systems, clean water and sanitation... This shipment is expected to arrive at Noi Bai airport at around 4:35 a.m. on September 16, to support people affected by floods in Vietnam. In addition, at the meeting, the two sides shared the current situation of Vietnam and the resources Switzerland has to support Vietnam not only at the present time, but also towards supporting disaster recovery in the future.
