Typical of local cooperation between the two countries
At the meetings, President Vo Van Thuong highly appreciated the positive contributions of the Kyushu - Vietnam Friendship Association and the Vietnam - Japan Experts Association to promoting the relationship between the two countries; affirmed that this is a good time to strengthen the Vietnam - Japan friendly cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the world, in the fields of science and technology, investment, education, and youth exchange.

The President highly appreciated the association's contributions and active support in promoting cooperation between the Kyushu region and Vietnam, notably the study tour program to Vietnam, which has become a typical activity of the friendly exchange and cooperation between Vietnam and the Kyushu region.
The President also suggested that the association continue to support localities in the Kyushu region and other sectors to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Vietnamese localities; promote human resource cooperation; actively organize more cultural and people-to-people exchanges, especially exchanges between the two countries' young generations through study tours; promote cooperation with localities whose leaders participated in this high-level delegation such as Vinh Long, Can Tho, Binh Thuan; and support the community of about 55,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working in the Kyushu region.
Chairman of the Kyushu - Vietnam Friendship Association Hoshino Hiroshi said that the association was established in 2008, before Vietnam established its Consulate General in Fukuoka. In recent times, the association has actively implemented many activities to promote cooperation with Vietnam such as supporting Vietnamese students in Japan, organizing study tours for Japanese high school students to Vietnam; promoting investment of Japanese enterprises in Vietnam through the Kyushu Promotion Center established in 2019, promoting tourism cooperation through opening direct flights from Fukuoka to many provinces and cities in Vietnam.
President Hoshino expressed his delight at the remarkable progress in bilateral relations since 2008, with the number of Vietnamese people in Kyushu and Japanese enterprises investing in Vietnam increasing; and assessed the relationship between the Kyushu region and Vietnamese localities as a typical example of local cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Hoshino promised the President that he would make more efforts to promote cooperation between the Kyushu region and Vietnam; support the Vietnamese community in the region to integrate into the local community. At the same time, he affirmed that he would make efforts to promote the resumption of the study tour program after the Covid-19 pandemic; and actively participate in and support the activities of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Fukuoka.
Expanding expert connections between research institutions of the two countries
On the same day, President Vo Van Thuong received the Vietnam - Japan Experts Association. The President highly appreciated the Vietnam - Japan Experts Association, although it was only established in May 2023, for its many contributions to the development of science in Vietnam, as well as scientific and technological cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.

The President suggested that the association promote the expansion of the network connecting experts and cooperation between research institutions of the two countries, promote cooperation in areas where Japan has strengths and Vietnam has needs such as digital technology, green technology, healthcare, semiconductors, etc., and support the training and development of Vietnamese graduate students studying and researching at Japanese universities and research institutes to become the core human resources in science and technology of Vietnam in the future.
The President also suggested that the school strengthen its links with Vietnamese universities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang in the field of semiconductors, and with universities in the Mekong Delta region to respond to climate change, drought, and saltwater intrusion.
Professor Ochi Mitsuo, Chairman of the Vietnam - Japan Experts Association, Rector of Hiroshima University, said that the school has a close relationship with Vietnam through training 65 students studying at the school, connecting with Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry in research on responding to rising sea levels, climate change, green transformation, healthcare, etc.; affirmed the desire to promote cooperation in the fields of education and training, human resources and experts in the fields of smart cities, green transformation, semiconductors, etc.
