From September 23 to 30, Vietnam Airlines cooperated with Con Dao District Youth Union to collect more than 820 kg of various types of plastic waste.
“Green Con Dao Festival” is one of the key activities of the “Fly Lightly to Con Dao” campaign recently launched by the National Airlines. The program is a strong affirmation of Vietnam Airlines , VASCO and the People’s Committee of Con Dao district with the goal of joining hands to reduce CO2 emissions, limit plastic waste, and promote propaganda to people and tourists about environmental protection actions.Recyclable plastic waste will be brought back to the mainland to be "reborn" into useful products.
With the aim of raising awareness of environmental protection, “Green Con Dao Festival” has organized many interesting experiential activities such as displaying recycled products and instructing on waste classification, collecting and exchanging waste for gifts, etc. Thereby, not only contributing to reducing the amount of plastic waste, but also creating a useful space for people to exchange and learn, contributing to spreading the message of green living to every home. Accordingly, Con Dao people can learn about recycled products from plastic waste on display and experience recycling plastic waste firsthand at the booths during the festival. At the same time, they listen to experts introduce the project; instruct families and residential areas in Con Dao on how to classify waste at home, how to identify and use plastic products properly.The program contributes to spreading the message of green living to every home.
At the festival, 165 kg of plastic waste, cans, and recyclable milk cartons collected and sorted by local people were converted into meaningful gifts. The amount of recyclable waste will be brought back to the mainland by Lagom Vietnam Joint Stock Company to be "reborn" into useful products, becoming gifts to give back to the people of Con Dao. Also on September 30, Vietnam Airlines and VASCO presented 400 seedlings to Con Dao, and coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Con Dao district to carry out a tree planting ceremony with the model "Medicinal garden - greening garbage points". Delegates and local people participated in planting medicinal plants such as lemongrass, polyscias fruticosa, cinnamon and flowers that are easy to adapt to the climate conditions of Con Dao. Previously, the model "Medicinal garden - greening garbage points" of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Con Dao district organized 47 campaigns since June, clearing 12 garbage dumps, planting 12 new gardens with an area of over 5,000 m2 . The garbage dumps have been covered with 1,000 precious medicinal plants and intercropped with 350 flowers of various kinds. Not only improving air quality, these gardens also provide a green, healthy space, contributing to improving the quality of life of the people.The Green Con Dao Festival will continue to be held on November 30 and December.
